e500 to 55k conversion

hey guys, im in the market for an e class maybe an 04 or 05, i found a totalled cls55 and the engine is going for 4k i know its dirt cheap. the car was mid-high mileage but the car itself was gone, it was rear ended by a truck and beyond half way the car was shredded. the guy selling the engine says its in great shape. ive known him for 12 years so i trust him. i thought maybe id drop it into an e500 cos ive seen people do m113 4.3 to 5.4 conversions so why not 5.0 m113 to 5.4? i know there are e500s going as low as 10k in chicago. my question is what would i need, the ecu doesnt come with the car. would the e500 ecu work

btw plz dont say, just go buy an e55, i never said i want to do an e55 conversion i said 55k. appreciate your help.

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
You would need a bit more than that including transmission ,TCU, cluster, etc...Time and effort probably would not pan out in the end.

W215 V12TT Build by Speedriven, W221 S550 4Matic
4k sounds like a great deal, do some deeper research on this project, motor alone is just the start.

Good Luck

Funny this, before getting the E55 I had the same idea, it was more feasable for me because the E55 was very expensive. Still though if you can get a non-Airmatic (not sure if they make them) E500 for a cheap price and the engine then it's a good build. Problem is labor, did you count for that? Also does the engine include the transmission? I'm not sure about the ECU working from the E500 engine, not sure if the TCU would either someone else will have to comment on that. The point is be prepared for some hard work. As for the 4.3 to 5.4 builds, yes they've done them before on the S Class and C Class as well as CLK (W208), I actually have a thread in the W220 forum if you want to check it out, not the same engine swap but its doable and for the price on the 55k you have then I'd say its not that bad. Just count everything and do your homework first.

well im not sure if the tcu comes with it, the transmission does though. regarding the labor i do know a couple of shops who could do it. by the way why should i get a car without airmatic, i thought that was the sports suspension??

You DO NOT want airmatic, the amount of failures people get is just ridiculous. Look up "E55 Coilover conversion" by BenzoBoi, it makes the suspension stiff, fairly comfortable and handle much better. Your car would handle BETTER than a real AMG 55. I only wish the SBC wasn't on ALL the W211s otherwise alot of people would do this conversion. Anyways avoid Airmatic if you can.

Read up friend, this guy did it on a CLS, it doesn't matter though, same engine and tranny. I'd imagine the same problems he had you would, the solutions he had you can use etc etc try to contact him.

No E55k ECU, is a deal breaker, you need the 55k ECU.
