AC off, cant get it back "on"
If I hit the AC rest/ac off button, I cant get it to turn ac on. Ive turned the car off and on, and let it sit, but its not pumping out cold air. When I hit the button the ac off flashes on the display, then remains on. If I hold it, i just get the features option, but what do i need to do to get my ac back?
thanks

I checked the AC rest menu, and my #7, which is Refrigerant pressure shows 08 bar. That seems normal, I just cant get the ac off to turn off.
I tried unhooking the battery for about a half hour - no dice. Any other suggestions?

Could be two things. A code update for your climate control module or, as ssonss1 stated, adding refrigerant to your AC system. There is a TSB for this. I'll post it later today.

Curious what the #7 shows now with the car running. Still at 8bar or is it higher.
I tried to search for ya and this AC Rest blink seems just evil. The older cars had a Climate Control reset you could do but I cant find it for the W211 anywhere.
Many say its a reset you gotta do at stealer or with Star Das if anyone is nearby.

My #7 reads around 08-09 when on/or driving. I finished pumping the whole 14 oz can in the low pressure port and still no go.
I certainly don't want to do the stealer reset, but nothing seems to be working. AC worked fine during the day, ice cold - no hint of low freon. Disconnected my battery, and then no AC.
I checked the fuses, everything was fine.
Im stumped

Here is the TSB. I wish it would go into more detail, but this is all I could get.
Date: April 16, 2009
Order No.: P-B-83.00/70d
Supersedes: P-B-83.00/70c dated June 16, 2008
Group: 83
Revision History
SUBJECT:
All Model 171, 203, 209, 211, 216, 219 and 221 Vehicles
AC or AC Off Indicator Lamp Flashes After Actuation / Air Conditioning Not Functioning
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the AC or AC Off indicator lamp flashing and the air conditioning is not operating, the cause could be the coding of the climate system control module. Follow the instructions below to overcome the specification parameter in the refrigerant level logic circuit.
1. Process any fault codes in the climate system and repair as necessary.
2. Confirm refrigerant level by performing a Refrigerant Circuit Test as per SDS and following instructions for corrective actions.
3. Only after steps 1 and 2 are completed, use Star Diagnosis to deactivate the fill level control as per the instructions listed below.
Model 203: Control unit groups --> Body --> EZS - Electronic ignition switch --> Control unit adaptations --> Read coding and change if necessary --> Climate control --> Standard setting: Climate control --> Refrigerant level check --> Set to Inactive
Model 216/221: Main groups --> Control units --> Air conditioning --> AAC - Automatic air conditioning (Interior CAC bus) --> Read coding and change if necessary --> Control unit adaptations --> Workshop coding --> Refrigerant level check --> Set to Deactivated
Model 171, 211 and 219: If the fluid level control is still active, there will be a menu item in 'Main groups' labeled 'Check for necessary coding measures' (Figure 1). Process this menu item to deactivate the coding of the fluid level controls (Figure 2 and 3). If the fluid level control is already inactive, this additional menu item will not appear when "Main groups" is selected (Figure 4).
Note:
If the fluid level control has already been deactivated and the vehicle has the symptoms described, there is a fault that has not been corrected and further diagnosis is necessary. Refer to applicable diagnostic trees in the Vehicle Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) Manual found on STAR TekInfo --> EDAC --> Non EDAC Guides.
You may have diagnostic trouble code stored or a coding error for the sensor above. Either way, I don't think your compressor will kick on until that error has been cleared. As Jakpro stated, you're going to need STAR to do that.
Hope this helps,
Oscar

In my model this happened there was an Error code stored in the climate control system. I had to hold AC off, recirculation and some other button to read the code from the climate display. It can be erased too with combination of other buttons. It's tricky but it can be done

Well just off the phone with my buddy Ken. Shop foreman at local Benz dealer. Says it just can't be done without Star Das. Needs to clear those codes, then reset and she'll be back up and ice cold in no time.
Heads up that they might come at you with "we need to fix x y and z on the ac system first"
Hopefully you can get some mercy from the stealer or Indy shop to just friggin clear the code and get you back on the road. They have that bulletin so that should help you some without them going for full rape. Maybe print it out or something.

No indy shops around Ur area with Star? I only ask because the ones around my area diagnose for free, much better than stealers prices lol.

AWOL I just came down with the same issue.
Let me know how it goes with the stealer and what advice you can give me before i head there also.
