Ignore the RS4 build (it's awesome but not my topic), go down the page and have a look at that widebody E55 build. When I saw it I was all WTF
While it looks awesome from the back I think it makes the car a bit vulgar, almost ricey. I mean it is a four door sedan, at the end of the day it has a certain class to it. The widebody look suits the CLK because it's a coupe but what do you guys think? Plus doesn't it increase drag, I mean the W211 is known for having a fairly good coefficient of drag.

Lipping the fenders always looks like a cop out. Yes drag is gonna go WAY up, the E doesn't need the DTM look. It would have been nicer if they would have actually flared the fenders... and then shot some ghost flames on it

If done right, park this up next to any other E55 and it'll definitely pop moreso than the other same bodied E55, for better or worse. My .02 - Better.

I thought about this as I have a set of clean MAE Crown Jewel 3pc to mount. They are 18x10 and 18x12.
But that's not doing it for me. Maybe had they started the kit at the B-pillar and run it thru to the tail lights and extended it up to the character line, I'd have got on the wagon.

Most of the fabrication in that GINORMOUS photo above looks like valid work....but what's with the rear fender lip area? Looks like balled-up tinfoil with a ton of defects all over it. The other flares and lower rocker extensions look like they were at least done with either an english wheel or some competent hammer and dolly work.
Not my taste at all, but I always admire guys who can sculpt in metal and don't need to use plastic filler to hide their handiwork.

Drag... really? It's a street car dood

....a street car which runs 10s if modded properly and alot of that depends on the aero, what's the point of owning an AMG if "it's a street car", so is the AMS Alpha 12, that's an 8 second car. The DTM is RACING car, while I think this project could look amazing don't give DTM examples which have nothing to do with the street. Anyone who drives a full fledged racing car on the road is a.....TOOL!!
I swear some people just LOVE to find "problems" with peoples' builds. Why don't you elaborate on your build so we can find things about that aren't 100% ideal?
And your comment: "Anyone who drives a full fledged racing car on the road is a.....TOOL!!", I mean really? Maybe some people are just a little more "hard core" than yourself and they truly do care about the performance of a vehicle. I have a caged/track prepped viper that I drive every chance I get, ON THE STREET. I guess that makes you cooler than me

To each their own, why don't you try embracing that instead of bashing it?

Your argument about drag is hardly valid. First off, I would be willing to bet it will make ZERO difference in the quarter mile (which you refer to). Secondly, it's clearly a street/show car, therefore the looks benefit far outweighs any performance loss.

I love the build in the thread, I asked about drag though and said that this wasn't a good thing for performance. I also said it might take away from the car's "class". So as a project it's very impressive and takes dedication but as a car like the Mercedes is meant to be I said I wouldn't like it. I don't wanna look like a boy racer while taking kids to school. SO I never "bashed" anyone's build, I said in my opinion the W211 wasn't the car to do this to.

Also regarding the whole drag thing, look at the Nissan GT-R and you'll see why low drag means extreme performance. Yes, the engine, gearbox, chassis ect make the car fast but without good aero you just waste those things.

That's pure vulgar and ugly. I never liked the DTM CLK compared to the Black and same with this one. The open ducts just ruin the lines. At least this maintains the smoothness. That thing look RICE as hell. I mean a wing on a Mercedes E Class? Tacky much? ![action](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/action1.gif)
