Just wanted to say hello to everyone as I am a new mbworld member as well as a new MB E63 owner as well.. I was a previous owner of a 2007 BMW M5 and I can say that I am very happy with the move to the E63.. I get the ability to transfer from family sedan to monster within seconds..

I have done some exterior mods with the famous "plasti-dip" and wanted to see what you guys think.. Wheels are coming this week, "my stocks are for sale in the classifieds" and I am also removing secondary cats, filters, and resonator next week.. I also am wrapping the roof and was thinking about doing the chin spoiler, diffuser and deck spoiler in carbon fiber as well.. Wanted to see if you guys had any pointers for other mods or other cool features a new owner might like to know..

I think I am going with the concept one c-5 in all matte black. I like the concave look. I'm just not sure on the offset on them.

So what do you like about the E63, more so than the M5, as I have never driven one. I want to get a sense of your M5 experience "comparison".

First off the M5 was definitely a great machine, the handling is unmatched and the F1 feel was phenomenal.. I did love it but the thing that I love about the E63 is it is much more practical.. With the M5's SMG transmission it always felt like a "race" car with four doors, the shifting was always jerky no matter what mode you had it in.. However this is a great feeling when your ripping through gears in M mode, but after a while it starts to wear on you.. The E63 is a sleeper.. It can look like a family sedan out of the box and then transform into a rocket by flipping the mode into sport or manual.. The other thing that separated the E63 from the M5 is the interior appearance.. The BMW you pay for engine, suspension, tranni, etc... The interior was very bland and idrive, forget about it.. With the E63 you get that luxurious feel with the interior and all the features that you would want in a high end vehicle as well as a faster out of the box car.. Now you throw an evosport power pulley and x pipe on the M5 and its another story.. In all honesty I don’t think you can really compare the 2 all that much because they are very different cars.. In the beginning I think someone would have more fun driving the M because it feels like a Ferrari with 4 doors, but you probably wouldn’t have a Ferrari as an everyday driver... The E63 has a more "everyday" practical feel to it with enough ***** to take most cars on the street.. If you plan on going to a track every day, go with the M5.. But if you’re like me, who likes to drive fast on occasion and wants a beautiful car to go to work in everyday, get the E63!!

I kind a feal like I rambled a little... sorry about that.. lol

Welcome, great looking AMG.

Congrats on the pickup! My other option before the AMG was an M5 coming from an M3. I chose the AMG for pretty much the reasons you stated plus I got a great deal on the E63.

Biffed,

Thank you for your unbiased opinion of each platform. I have read other articles about the comparison between the two platforms, and you were spot on. I definitely like the F1 exhaust note of the M5, but the interior is bland. It doesn't scream M5 when you look at it. It does handle well in the twisties thou, but for pure acceleration excitement and torque the E63, is it.
