Got some Respect tonight
Heading home this evening on a 4 lane road and low and behold, a sick looking e60 M5 with black rims is about to merge onto the parkway. I think he saw me cruising by so he jumped in right behind me off the turn pretty aggresively.
I was making a turn at the upcoming light so I got into the turn lane and waited at the red light. Light turns green, and I wait a couple seconds for the car in front of me to get ahead, floor it a little and the beast does it's job by blowing the tires up in smoke and going sideways, we both make it through the turn.
Next up is a 4 way stop, wait for my turn, go through the light normally and wait for him to pass through and we both gun it, beasts goes sideways through all of first gear with him pursuing
Finally, we get to another 4 way stop and he is turning off, so I roll down my window, and before I could say anything, he says, "Beautiful car man, very nice." He goes on his way and me on mine, his wifey was easy on the eyes too
After that is was a long ride home from Mexico

I've always had good interactions with other equally good cars. And also with lesser and better cars than mine. Most people are cool and are simply into performance cars no matter what the brand is.
It's just the fanbois who see their car as an extension of themselves, and especially as an extension of a certain appendage that they seem to be lacking. It's those insecure owners with weak egos that spoil it for everybody else.

what is all this respect crap?
people, its a piece of steel with 4 tires. It doesn't earn respect, it doesn't need respect, and you don't get respect for being associated with it.
ITS A CAR.

It may be just a car to you but for many people it is much more than that. They see cars as a work of art and have a passion for them. People have sleepless nights and many day dreams about owning a certain car and how they want to modify a car. There is a reason that you own the cars that you do. Somebody was passionate enough to design them and make them what they are. Each little thing that you enjoy about your comfort in your S and the performance in your porsche is due to passion to make things better. I know a lot of people think it is just a car but to enthusiasts it is more.

To get on topic...you make a good point about enthusiasts and passion, and I don't disagree. I like cars, but I'm not what I would call a diehard enthusiast. That said, to me that doesn't change the fact that I don't believe you can disrespect or respect a car.
A car is an inanimate object, it has no feelings, statements, thoughts, ideas, or opinions. It does nothing to deserve respect. Perhaps those behind its design are to be respected, but the statement that (xyz car gets respect) make me shake my head.
I also don't get people who spend every cent or waking moments thoughts about their car...but I digress.
