Soon to be a proud owner of a 2003 E55!!
I'm most likely buying a 2003 E55 next weekend it in sarasota Florida at gulf coast auto brokers. It seems to be a solid car. But I heard there were some issues with the e55's such as the fuel tank and air ride suspension that are pretty costly? Could someone elaborate on this? I searched but couldn't find a good enough answer

Welcome and hope you enjoy your beast when you pick it up!
I've personally never had any trouble with the fuel tank so can't really help you there...![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
For the suspension, IF it goes out and you find out it's only the strut, there are a few companies out there that sell struts at a reasonable price. They will send you out a strut and you just send them your old unit and they will credit you. OR....you could just swap out the air suspension for a coil-over system. I recently went through the process and it wasn't too bad. Rides just as good, if not better AND I don't have worry as much about a failed airmatic strut...

But just to replace a failed strut its a fraction of this and the fuel issue can be deault with as a recall by the main dealer.

if you are financing throught your credit union, they have some good warranty for $2000 or less. I recently cancelled my aftermarket warranty of $5k and will buy my FCU warranty for $1895. Pretty much covers the same parts, but cheaper!!!

All years seem to have problems if you ask me. My airmatic failed, granted it's a 2005 but still ... Most warranty companies are useless on this part so be careful on warranties. If you are handy, you can handle a number of common failures yourself. Plus there are lot's of helpful people on these forums to help you along with issues. If you are not handy then .... well think again. These kinds of cars (BMW or Mercedes performance), I have told friends is for the enthusiast. If you want something reliable, go for a Lexus or other Japanese car. To me it was worth it even though there were frustrations along the way. Depends a lot on your personality, attitude, budget, goals for performance etc...
Good Luck!
