My car tells me when a change is due.

FWIW my friend had a ford probe turbo that he never changed oil in, just added too.
It died (transmission failure) 235K miles engine ran smooth.
My point is, we have figured out oil and lubricating engines, this would have been a good thread back in the 1930s.

Your TSX might run at a higher consistent operating temp actually...

I agree, I do the same and send the oil to Blackstone for analysis. The oil was fine at 10k miles, but I feel better with 6-7k intervals.

thats nice for you. If i wanted an E55 or other AMG, I would have bought one. I didn't screw up, I bought exactly what I wanted and got way more than I could have asked.

I am extremely fond of my S500 and would never trade it for an E55.

now then, what in gods name does that have to do with oil changes? Considering the design of the engine is generally the same, my views, which are based on more than just my car (sl55, e430, clk550, 911 turbo, cl550, etc), are relevant.

Oil changes, sooner than later, I've always done it that way. Been doing this for more than 20 years and have never had any problems.

I have an S123 280TE with about 512000Kms, it's an 1982 model, changed oils every 10000Kms and gearbox, every 40000Kms, only for the original g/box to burn 2nd and 3rd gears at about 496000Kms.

The engine still operates perfectly, having used, Shell, Castrol, and Mobil in it's life, I only use Castrol High Mileage now.

I want this wagon to reach 1 million Kilometers, then 1 Million Miles. Lets see.

wow, no way. Because obviously mercedes designed the s500 to be a fast car.

Its a ****ing 4400lb luxury boat with 302bhp. Of course its slow. Its not intended to be fast jackass.

If i wanted an s-class that was faster than an E55, I would have just have gotten an S65.

my god people are dumb or just ignorant.

In the SL600, its every 5k, or after each race event. Whichever comes first. I also do an oil analysis every change, and it's always stellar. Could I go longer? Sure. But for $75.00, and 30 minutes of my time, it's worth it to me.

On the E500, it was every FSS interval, since my scheduled maintenance was covered up to 50k miles (purchased at 29k) Since then, every 5k miles. I just started doing analysis on that car at 100k, and with 109k miles, she's still all purdy inside.

Twice a year for me, roughly at the 6k mark. With all of the money we throw at these cars it's drop in the bucket and well spent.

i work at a BMW & Mercedes Shop. The BMW's definatly cant go that long on oil changes. The Mercedes can. It may have to do with the oil that the brands recommend

Mercedes use Mobil 1

BMW... Not Mobil 1

the Bimmers that go 15k do sludge and lock upif you want "proof" take the valve cover off one that has 100k on it and has followed the service interval. Its trashed. the Benz is ok.

People can change their oil every 50 miles if they want...but I can't stand it when people say that the factory recommendation is WRONG.

I've been told that I MUST change my oil every 3000 miles ( with synthetic no less ) or my engine will die. Maybe the shops are the ones that want to make more money and not the factory....hmmmmm....

I change my oil around 7500 miles. But it depends on the weather like sitting in traffic in extreme heat for days on end and then driving from Boston to Foxwoods for a night of the boys can't make up their minds and that it's a weak party scene, then jumping in the cars to drive straight thru to party in Montreal.
Then to Buffalo and Toronto. Alot of sitting in traffic in the heat checking out the women and then blasting around on the highways. When I got back to Boston I changed my oil. No big deal. And there shouldn't be a big deal over this. We all know when to change our oil and really don't need to be told. And most people who do need to be told aren't on this forum.

I drove my E55k for 10K miles in almost 3 years and changed 3 times oil. Its only cost $100. For the W210 E55 just changed 4 weeks ago and will change every 5K miles. They are Mercedes not Toyota ! I even changed Mobile 1 to my wife Honda Van in every 5k miles.

All I see is....blah blah blah hibbity hibbity hibbty.

Mercedes says 10k. I'm doing it 10k. Like I'm going to trust some "Internet Oil Expert" over the people that, you know, designed these cars and determined that 10k is what is necessary.

Change every 5k here if not less just for peace of mine on all of my vehicles. All synthetic of course. Gives me a chance to get in the garage.

MB says 10K miles OR once a year, whichever comes first...you are following the recommended oil change for your vehicle.

+1 for sending it off for analysis. I've done it in almost all my other vehicles and have never had an issue due to going 10k between oil changes. While I personally wouldn't go 15k or 1 year between changes. I don't think that with the right synthetic it's really as much an issue as the OP is making it out to be.

To the OP: So if I understand you correctly, BMW wants owners of their cars to maintain them in such a way, that they will prematurely wear out and be forced to purchase a new BMW?
