Good for you.

Really? An S500 wasn't intended to be fast? That's quite a shocker!!

Are you implying that s500's are even remotely quick?

BMW only changes the oil every 15,000 miles, but they expect you to do an oil change yourself in the middle at 7,500 miles.

E55 then E63, now back to an E55

I agree. I am also under the impression that although the oil may last, the filter would break down much faster !!

What? Where do people come up with this stuff? So you're saying since that's not written anywhere you should just intuitively know that?

Some of you people argue over the most ridiculous things; who cares what other people change their oil at, most of you will have your car turned-in, totaled, sold, traded, or even repossessed to even make a difference. I have yet to see a blown E55 motor due to lack of proper lubrication so ALL of you must be doing something right. LOL.

Also remember that MB recommended service intervals are based on non-modified components. I would hope that those that are pushing 100, 200hp and tq above OEM figures, are also modifying their service intervalls accordingly.

I know that I do.

I see your sense to pickup sarcasm is pretty weak.
You think I would actually compare a S500 to a E55?!?

the Bimmers that go 15k do sludge and lock upif you want "proof" take the valve cover off one that has 100k on it and has followed the service interval. Its trashed. the Benz is ok.

GT-ER, Take the valve covers off a BMW with 100k miles that had oil changes every 15k miles, you will change your opinion quickly.

Maybe you should read post #2 and #3 again....been there, done that. I have yet to see a SINGLE bmw that has had proper service ( i.e. using the right oils with the right filters and following the correct schedules ) have any oil related problems.

Again, using the right oils with the right filters and following the correct schedules...which few people do.

Mercedes S55 AMG
My S55 AMG had 171,000 miles, and I changed the oil at around 6k to 8k miles or so, I never really let it get passed 10k. It ran perfectly and pulled nicely.

That said, always check your oil level. I had to always add oil. I have a new MK6 GTI that is tuned, and I had to add 2 quarts of oil in the first 5k miles. So check your oil!

97k miles and still on the original oil from mb. Just add oil when needed.

Just joking. I buy oil by the bulk and change them when ever I feel like it. Usually way under 3k miles.

No engine ever complained about having it's oil changed too often.

Then you should change it once a week.

Again, do what you all want...but it's completely unnecessary. I hope you guys maintain the rest of the vehicle the same way you maintain your oil...since it would be funny if you'd change the oil every 3,000 miles yet never change any other fluid such as brake fluid or transmission fluid.

I pay Carmax $56 every 3k-6k miles to put in 9 quarts of Mobil 1 and a new filter and will continue to do so for as long as I have my car.

$56...I mean really? The fact that there is even a debate here is actually quite remarkable.

$56? That's INSANE!!! Are you sure they even put Mobil 1....LOL. I purchase Mobil 1 myself and do the oil change myself and I spend about $95 with the filter included.

Regardless, you can spend $1....and it's not the point of this whole conversation.

I find this VERY hard to believe.

The filter is about $13 at cost. Mobil 1 at cost is about $4 per quart.

You are saying that they only charge $7 for labor AND give you parts/oil at cost?

If so, thats a great way for them to lose a bunch of cash.

Also, there have been rumblings that changing oil too early also has downsides.

How can they charge you $56 for everything, if 9 quarts of mobil 1 alone is $80?

$ 56 is possible, but they would have to hound you over other service items.

Filter, paper @ $8.00 Fleece @ $18.00
So for the 3000 mile change guys use the paper, and for the 10,000 mile guys use the fleece filter.

when can we
this

That would be on the high end and full if not more than retail. This oil goes on sale at times under $5.00 a qt which would place Jobber a bit less than that. I am sure CarMax buys in bulk and saves further. Adds up. I would not be surprised if their cost in bulk is around $3.00 or so a qt. $3 x9-$27.00 +filter. Still a bit of margin.

That makes more sense.
Everywhere I go Mobil 1 0W-40 is $9 per quart.
I need to shop around more for these $5 deals.
