3" exhaust
how many people are running 3" exhaust on their 55's ? I am looking to run 3" exhaust after my EC LTH's with no cats, no reinstators, just x pipe into EC wiseman mufflers.
asides from the loudness, did anyone notice any differnce like power pickup worth talking about?

Bassn07 has run 10.77 at 132 with a 2.5" exhaust
I assume he dynos in the 520-530 range on the DD
That said, I think, wide open runs like the mile (or real world madness) would benifit from getting the exhaust (and heat) the F out! I don't think you pick up a lot of power, or lose any, I just think the smaller exhaust may pose a bigger risk than a larger exhaust
In terms of sound: Ask chawkins!!
Mine is a little louder, when just driving around.. (WOT is another story)
Ill have some dyno numbers next week and we can look at this closer.
(I have this set up today)

i saw this EC CLS55 on youtube that sounded wicked with 3' full exhaust
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k0Xd8m_5f0
i dont think i would pickup anything more than 5-10hp at most going from stock exhaust to 3" but that sound would be so worth

I'm runnin a full 3 inch exhaust. I have lost a tad bit of torque down low due to hacking some hardware in the exhaust but it does feel as if I pull slightly harder up top compared to before.

i am ok loosing a little trq down low - it might actually help me not spin my tires from anything more than 1/4 throttle from a stop

The rule of thumb is that 2.5" exhaust will support up to 500HP until it becomes somewhat restrictive, and 3" exhaust will support up to 600HP before it becomes somewhat restrictive.
One of the best if not the best exhaust builder here in the south says that you should double the piping diameter, and that is right at the HP level it will start to be restrictive. Anything bigger is just overkill and you will start to loose TQ and HP.

^… of course, but that’s because you know everything. Tell us some more about all your turbo cars, and the engineering fundamentals of exhaust flow and resonance. Be sure to outline pulse pattern vs. tube length, and if it’s not a problem, could you give us a brief description of scavenging?
If you get bored, I would love another narrative on Fuel Injector dynamics.. That was my FAVE

3" all they way You EC LT collectors are 3" so why go down to 2.5. If you are spending the money get 3" so it will support your future mods when the 2.5 starts to become restrictive.

For example, in some cases I am aware of 3" X-pipes being installed onto the standard 2.75" pipes and resulting in a noticeable loss of power. Conversely, a 2.5" standard Magnaflow x-pipe machined to fit the standard 2.75" pipes and properly located can provide a small increase in power.
It's remarkable that MB would put such an terrible exhaust manifold on these cars and yet do the rest so well.

this is why i planned on doing the 3" ^ since i have the EC LTH and the collector is 3" i figured might as well continue on back plus the sound clips i have seen of 55 engines with 3' exhaust have all sounded pretty wicked ... I just wasnt sure if anyone had any " 3 inch exhaust sux on our cars" type of stories or definitive reasons not to do it
