Should I race these guys?
There are these 2 guys that want to race me, but I'm not sure if I should do it or not. Can you guys help me decide?
The first guy is in some old muscle car. It's big, loud, and quite frankly, scary sounding. I'm not sure how fast it is, but he once told me that he lives a quarter mile at a time and that in those 10 seconds or less, nothing else matters. Do you guys think that means his car can do the 1/4 in 10 seconds or less? I told him if I win, I just want the respect. He and everyone else laughed and said respect is earned. Don't I earn it if I win??
The other guy is in a Honda 2000. I've heard he has 100 grand under the hood, but I'm not sure. He also doesn't know my name and calls me Junior. Anyhow, if he has 100 grand under the hood, do I stand a chance? He wants to race for pinks.
I'm thinking that maybe I need Harry to hook me up with 2 big bottles of NOS. Hopefully my car won't top out at 140 with it.
What do you guys think? I really want the respect.

Not so worried about the muscle car as the Honda! Those old tanks have to hook HARD on a well prepped rack to run low 10s. We are talking front tires up hard! The average highway will be a joke for hard launches. Honda sounds like he will roll it gently off the line and let the hp do the rest.
Just my rapidly devaluing 2 cents.

It looks like a stock Honda S2000 is a high 13 car stock. There are a few damn quick S2000s on dragtimes.com in the 10s and one is a 9 second car. I have to believe there are only a hand full of Honda S2000 that are quicker than your E55.
Who knows what the old muscle car has it in. If it is anywhere near stock, you will smoke it. As far as the noise. A few years back, a friend of mine took me out to the track for the first time with my slightly modded (at the time) SL55. I heard all of these noisy cars and thought "holy cow I am going to get smoked." At the end of the night, no car was faster than my low 12s. Most of the noisy cars where in the 13s and some dipped into the 12s. Keep in mind 12s and 13s are very respectable quarter times. This is not to say that there aren't cars running low 11s and high 10s, but way fewer cars are doing this and they tend to be set up for drag racing only in general.
You might ask both of the drivers what type of roll bar they have in the car. I started asking this when I found that it seemed every guy I talked to had a 10 second car. They would say they don't have a roll bar. That was all I needed to know. All dragstrips follow NHRA rules. The rules require all cars faster than 11.5 to have an NHRA approved roll bar. It is possible that these guys go out to the track, make one sub 11.5 run and then go home because they get kicked off the track. A few of our members do this.
Bottom line, talk is cheap. i would be willing to bet you will walk both of them. They most likely have no idea what they are dealing with. But then again, they might not be full of shiot.

both of these cars sound fast to me... if the s2000 has 100 grand under the hood that thing is hauling ***. And the other guy is most likely a 10second car from the way it sounds.

I tell you what, whatever you do make sure when you go to race these guys you park at the top of the hill about 45 mins before with ice packed ontop of the motor with the car off (Even though you only drove 30mph to get there you want to make sure your not heak soaked) THEN WITHOUT starting THE CAR! Roll it down the hill.
Be on time though, you wouldn't want to stand the guy up. He will blast you on facebook and you will be blacklisted the biggest nerd in town.

If I was you, I would wait 'till nightfall and break into their garages. Then you can "sneak a peak" under their hoods.
Last tip, make sure your floorboards are tightened down before you race...lol
