Why do SLR's put down 600+whp on our same superchargers?

Why do SLR's put down 600+whp on our same superchargers?

I saw an SLR supercharger the other day and the rotors themselves looked IDENTICAL to ours in size...the part where the gears go is different ( apparently it's geared for more boost ). I also saw an SLR put down 630whp on a dynojet.

This being said, where are we losing so much power? I really, honestly believe that our intercooler is to blame. It's just so small and packed so tight that I believe it's too restrictive. Has anyone done any testing to see what the pressure drop is before and after the intercooler? How about the heads? Are the SLR heads any different?

The SLR has something VERY right going for it and I don't think it has anything to do with it's supercharger.

Your worst nightmare...
They run different internals then the regular 55K cars, bulk of the power comes from the Intake and famous intercooler configuration. They also run different cams and bigger injectors. There are plenty of 55k cars out there putting close to 600rwhp...they are slighly lighter as well.

I'm surprised it's taken so long for people to break down the slr parts and compare them to other 55K parts to find the weakest links and make better parts. Re-doing the intercooler system really isn't THAT hard nor THAT expensive...heck, I think we can even fit an air to air setup....hmmmmmmmm.

Isn't the new Evosport cooling system coming soon (allegedly....eventually ) which should help the cooling problem alot. I'm not sure how expensive they'll price it, they'll probably try to rip out as much dough from people as they can but their setup looks professional and has gone through R&D.

Yup....but I somehow feel that they will either never mass produce it or it will be stupid expensive. The results they get however should be an eye opener.

That's the problem, they know people need this mod and will exploit it. Regarding the SLR don't forget that it's dry sump too.

The only real dyno Iv seen is a slr 722 renntech with a pulley on it and it made 59xwhp.

the slr 722 gt is running 1.75 bar 25psi.

I dont think they have the same internals in the blower since our blower at 25psi is way out of its eff range.

We don't know that...I've never seen a compressor map for our charger...I've only seen a lysholm compressor that people ASSUME is similar to ours.

Screw Type superchargers, unlike centrifugal chargers, are simple is design and to make them flow more you must either make the physically larger or make them spin faster. The housing is identical so the rotors definitely are not larger...they just spin faster.

Plus, even if they are out of their efficiency range, a good intercooler will solve that problem ( like the slr has ). I've seen Pontiac Grand Prix's put down 430whp on a PUNY M90 supercharger...THAT is pushing the limits...lol.

I'm thinking the heads must be different (more flow). I mean just listen to the sound that thing makes... That thing is breathing!
Does anyone know if the part numbers on the heads are different?

So I think the 600 figure is a little high, but beyond that, the intercoolers make a huge difference in airflow and exhaust is less restrictive. They are getting more boost, but I don't know what the method is, likey gearing.

With the new intercooler setup, new heads, some larger TB's (100mm+) I think we will see some 600+ HP 55's in the near future. WAIT!! Exotic Metal is already there!!!!!

The 630whp car has more than just a pulley and tune. It also has headers and some other exhaust stuff and God knows what else.

I also notice that our cars make huge torque yet not so huge power in comparison to the SLR. This means our engine are suffocating in the upper rpms.

I can't wait to see if evosport eventually finishes and tests their product...I believe the intercooler is the key!

I think Exotic was the first 55k (non slr) car i saw to reach 600 rwhp, so heads are definately playing a big role into that power too.. Heads and better intercooler and I bet you wouldnt be too far off what the SLRs are making.

The rotating internals on the SLR , could be worth 25 hp alone. Heads may be different too. Benzgal posted a couple years back of her SLR internals that Renntech did for her 55. Search that, had some pretty cool pics and details.

Once I have my custom cams completed to go with my race heads, you will be able to see what our budget 55 motor can do. The torque of our 55 motor is insane!

+1 the E55 suffer from hp at higher rpm, i have a C32 and i worked and modded 3-4 E55's and dataloged all cars, the C32 has the same physical SC as the E55 but with more Liters in the E55 one, the surprising think that you notice that the e55 decrease boost with rpm go higher, opposite to the c32 where the boost increase with the rpm get higher till i get with my c32 (185pulley) at redline 22psi(1.5 bars) fourth gear, this is the issue i think with the e55, if you guys can make the 55 sc make higher boost at higher rpm you will get more then 600whp, maybe this is how the slr get 1.75 bars.
the c32 does not have a secondary tb like the one in the E55 below supercharger!!!!!!!!!

SLR internals also comprise of forged pistons and titanium con rods (big reduction in rotational mass not to mention carbon rotors). SLR's also have a closed loop fuel rail with 6 port injectors and a fuel cooler, but as it has already been noted, they breathe far better and have much lower and stable IAT's.

BTW, Väth in Germany offers an after market fuel cooler for the E55.

i saw the vath i/c and is relatively inexpensive considering what some people were guessing the Evosport one in development would cost...

has anyone looked at the vath one? i am assuming its just an under the s/c replacement one given that claimed increased efficiency is in the 5-8% range
