Has anyone had issues with the sun visor?
I picked up an 06 E55 recently and the drives sun visor is a bit messed up. It doesn't really move up/down smoothly so I think the hinge is jammed. I took it to the dealer and the visor part alone is $750 before labor.
Has anyone else had a similar issue and is there a cheaper solution?

I had the same problem. I removed the visor and using WD-40 and the red straw, oiled it. Wedge red straw into where the shaft goes in and spray slowly. Hold the visor horizontally so the oil uses gravity to trickle down the inside of the assembly.
It is not 100% stock feel but works way better and it doesn't droop.

Sticking visor on my 2005 S430 (and 2003 CL55 AMG) . Replaced it with a new one purchased for $270 from dealer. Cutting open the old one, I discovered how it works. Chrome rod slides through a barrel-shaped pot metal fixture on the swivel (elbow) side. The flat side of the slidable chrome rod forces the pot metal fixture to rotate within a steel clamping spring. Problems: the internal lubricant dries up, making the rod hard to slide in and out, and the lubricant between the pot metal fixture and the steel spring dries out, making it difficult if not impossible to tilt the visor. Not sure there is a sure fix except to remove the visor (2 Torx bolts on front and back of swivel), hang visor vertically with the elbow up, gently add a tiny bit of WD-40 where the rod enters the visor, and wait a couple of days for it to trickle through. Repeat until visor frees up. Be carefully not to add too much WD-40; it will stain the fabric.

Silicone lubricant might also work. The pot-metal barrel contact surfaces are the problems. Might be a question of whether WD-40 or silicone is more durable. I'm about to try WD-40 on the sliding rod of the driver-side visor of my CL55 AMG. I don't want to pay $270 twice!
To forestall problems with the sliding rod, a dry lubricant on the chrome slide might be a good preventative of future problems.

Great directions! I took down the driver's side visor which was sagging and hard to move, lubed it with WD-40, left it vertical position for 15 minutes then put it back. It stays up now, just need to apply light pressure when closing. Thank you!!!

Worked for me
I wouldn't say the driver side visor on my wife's 2007 E320 with 98,500 miles is perfect now, but it is nearly so. Before this fix which I did with spray white grease through the small straw, it would sag by roughly 1 1/4 inches. Now, if you push it up it stays within 3/8 of an inch. And if you adjust it horizontally there's a good chance you can get it stay flush.

Bringing up an old thread here... So I took my visor off and lubed the metal shaft, but that didn't help. Then I tried to shove a toothpick between the metal shaft and the visor but there isn't enough space for it, so how can there be enough space to shove a red wd-40 straw up there?

Then just grab the hinge and swing it as it where installed in the car, after a few times you'll notice it will move lot easier. If necessary repeat. You don't have to stick the plastic straw in a hole?
Re-install it and call it a day
