In my experience it was no good so far. Car sets adaptation faults. I sent a p/m to the O/P to ask if he ever got adaption faults. My car may be more sensitive with the Afe filters then others.

Guess if your getting lean fault it worked when it comes to increasing air into the motor, ECU likely just hasn't adapted yet. I'm going to try this with a tune.
I talked to Jerry at Eurocharged. He said there is nothing they do when it comes to that. He said the Euro cars have a different part number for the MAS, but their tune will not correct for it.
I bit the bullet and bought some new boxes from a member. If using an SDS to reset adaptations won't correct it, I'm not sure what else will.

Well when you buy the ROW Airboxes most place include new MAF sensors. Maybe if you do this mod you just need the new sensors??
I get the CEL when I take out my charcoal filters so I put them back.
Also I did notice with the charcoal filters out going uphill the engine would have this stutter...went away when I put the charcoal filters back.
I do run the AFE filters already, I guess that's good enough for extra airflow.

I pulled the charcoal filters on mine and didn't get a CEL or have any issues.
Modding factory air boxes to remove part of the trumpet is not recommended by myself. After I did this, it introduced dead spots in the pedal upon acceleration from low speeds. This is due to the fact more air is coming through and bypassing the airflow sensor causing a lean condition. In that it causes acceleration to fall flat or stumble. In addition to this, my idle at times goes lean and causes the engine to stumble. This did not occur before the modification to air boxes.
Plan is to replace with OEM unmodified boxes or purchase ROW boxes.
modified air boxes do not work as the sensor is not pointed in the direction of the additional flow that bypasses the sensor.
Here is my airbox when I removed my lids after I got fed up of the dead spots in my fueling map at throttle tip in. I also have a tune, so no check engine light, but honestly no tune can compensate for the inability to measure the incoming air. the sensor itself is faced the wrong way to work with cutting the trumpet off. If the sensor was further downstream we would have zero issues as all air incoming from cutting of the trumpet will be metered.

while there has been a lot of talk about this, has anyone just removed the carbon filter and left the rest of it the same? i think the biggest drag is probably due to that. also, do you think the velocity stack that's "limiting" the airflow is not, simply, as big as they could make it in the ROW and the US version? this is not an F1 and i highly doubt that they did any CFD or tuning of the orifice (stack).
i did just take out the carbon filter and every once in a while, i throw a code for it. (mostly in winter (hey, surprise more dense air!)) perhaps the sensor that's in the US version cannot handle the mass of air. makes sense. if it can barely handle it, then anything else is foolish. if you need the few HP (2%??!) , just buy it from FCP Mercedes Air Filter Cover - Genuine Mercedes 1560940306 | FCP Euro. that includes the MAF.
personally, i don't think i felt and seat of the pants difference. besides the occasional code, and the anguish that that causes in the background, there is a change in intake noise. you can really hear the difference.
