Valve Gasket Leak?

Hey Guys,

So I replaced the gaskets 3 times and still leaks oil. Any ideas? I replaced them with OEM MB parts too. It usually leaks onto my headers and starts burning off that. I wiped the headers clean with Simple Green but still same result. Only leaks on Passenger side. Any Ideas? I posted pictures also.

did you reseal the breather on the cam cover?this also leaks, you need a gasket sealant for that.

The baffles/ breathers are the parts on top of the valve covers that have bolts through them. You need to remove the bolts, remove the breathers and clean, then reseal and install with RTV sealant.

If you look closely at your first pic, its the parts on the top left. Do both.

Good luck.

Little bit of a noob question but, did anyone ever modify there valve covers with a breather/filter?
I figured that would solve some of the leaks that our cars are subjected to.

Also, I've tried replaced the gasket a couple times as well and still have leaks. it wouldn't hurt to use a sealant in addition to the gasket.

I went through this ordeal recently.

Couple of pointers:
1) Reseal the breahter covers with Permatex Black \ Ultra Grey as already mentioned and yes this is the small cover towards the rear of the engine (on the right side) that has three small torx fasteners.

2) The actual valve cover gaskets have a very specific tightening sequence starting from the top middle, then bottom middle and working left then right (as you face the engine) and work towards the extreme ends of the valve cover.

3) Do not over tighten the valve cover on the head.

4) Apply the valve cover "dry" no sealer or Permatex required.

5) Make sure all mating surface are clean and free of debris and particles.

6) Be patient.

Good luck.

Valve covers were done by Mercedes, everytime I call and tell them. They want to charge me more and re-do it yet again. I spent like $500 already on just valve gaskets for past year. I still don't see the breather covers? Maybe someone can point an arrow? I am a newb!

/\ I explained what needed to happen. It is pretty straight forward to do. Not sure why you are mentioning the second picture when i said it is in the top left of the first pic you posted. If you take a few minutes and go look at the top of your valve covers, you will see the parts that are bolted to the tops of them. Good luck.

If you search, you'll find a lengthy write-up on it all.
