I can finallllllly seeee!

So have you guys ever wondered why our bi-xenon don't have great output as BMW/Lexus/Audi. Well I did you guys a favor and did a little work on my headlights. Buddy of mine, Rich from HID Illusionz, finally decided I am tired of the crappy lighting. I really couldn't see past 10-15 away from my car. Did a little research that our E55 Hella projectors probably have the worst lens cause they are "frosty" not clear. Painted the housing a gunmetal/titanium color because my new look for spring is silver/gunmetal accents. Let the pictures do the talking!

Im actually just about to put a pair of clear lens into a set of W211 bixenons for someone. I have the headlights and lens just sitting here in front of me. The owner of the car was also complaining that the output on the stock headlights suck so I recommended him to do this upgrade.

Very nice....!!! So where did you guys get the lens? And is it coming with just the lens and you need to take the whole light apart and change the lens? Thanks

You can get the lens on eBay and for the money I would get the zkw replica's because the cut off is almost identical.

Yeah replicas are the way to go! You would need to take the headlight apart to do so. PM me if you want to get it done. Mine was $250 painted/lens swap.

I have both the OE and AL Bosch (audi) bi-xenon lens in my hands waiting for a headlight tear down. Should I go with the AL Bosch (even though the mounting is off by a couple of holes)?

I have not disassembled one of these headlamps yet, so I have two questions:

What does this do to auto leveling / active headlights (turning feature)? I assume the entire projector housing moves, which would allow the swap without losing functionality. can you confirm?

In terms of installation, is it a direct swap, or does the housing need to be modified?

Thanks!!

Auto leveling is a seperate motor so nothing to do with the projector itself. It is direct swap.

You are ONLY replacing the LENS to the projector, not the complete projector. You can PM me on the info. For $250 for a lot better lighting. I think it is well worth it.

From what I understand, you'll replacing the lenses only on your projectors. Here's a link to a source for the replacement lenses:

Yup that's it, but not simple swap. Need to put them in the oven and all that jazz. I let a professional do it instead.

Detailed bi-xenon lens retrofit install instructions. In this case, it's for the AL Bosch (Audi).

thanks for the ZKW link, komp55

By the time you've removed the headlights opening the housing is the simple part.

Komp55 I found the same source last night, I'll order up the lenses and save $210 and do it myself

Would anybody attempting this be able to do a side by side of the two light beams? Like say, do the drivers side first, (leaving the passenger headlight in the car) and then turn the lights on to see if the difference is visible?

I'll definitely do this when I attempt this project, but it would be nice to know how much of an improvement there is; to know if it's worth it or not.

If anyone wants to do this without waiting. I have a extra set of headlights I can send first with modifications, as long you send yours back. I think this would help out A LOT of people.

Edit: If the the group buy is a success, he is dropping the price a lot!

His price is only $100 if you just want to do lens swap, it was 250 for me because I had mine painted.
