Like said before - the transmission needs to come out... IIRC, its a 6+ hour job at the dealer.

Edit - If you need the car, keep an eye on the oil level and drive it.
I have a slow leak on my SL55, nothing on the floor or ground. However knowing it's there bothers me. I'm also in Sac. Please PM me with the name of your friend.

Thanks

just called my dealer because of the seal been told it would cost me $500 just to check up the transmission and if the problem is from it or not id have to pay 500 just to have it taken out inspected and put back in again, with out parts and oil and ETC...mercedes have seriously gone down on its customer services and is turning to be bad customer service, im gonna think to sell this car as its getting a bit much on spending to fix it and getting it to go fine on the road............

With the labor rate at my local dealer being around $120/hr, I don't see 4 hours to R&R the transmission and check it out as being overpriced. No bad customer service going on there and MBUSA is certainly not related.

I'm reviving an old post here due to dealer recently diagnosing my W211 as having a rear main seal leak. I don't see any oil drops on garage floor, however once in a while I do smell burning oil after a drive. I know it's not my engine cover gaskets as they were replaced last Fall.

If it's the rear seal, would you expect to see oil drops on garage floor? Could seal be just sweating, and oil burn smell is result of some other leak?
