Granted I don't have stock wheels anymore.
I think my stock wheels were 18x8 Front and 18x9 Rears.
Now I'm sitting a bit wider 18x8.5 F and 18x10 Rear, and I'm using stock front tire size, and stuffing a 285 / 35 / 18 on the rears, and they hook much better than the 265's but there is still problems hooking up. It could also be due to the wheel setup being much much lighter.

Bumping an old thread, but I just changed out the 19 Weds on my car for stockers I got from a friend. Running 255/40 and 285/35 and the ride is much more compliant and it looks like I can go a little bigger, if the rims were .5" wider.

In the same boat.. Just ordered new Forgestar F14's 19" in either 8.5"F or 9" with rears an 10".. Am looking to run the widest tires possible thinking 255/265 Front and either 285/295 rears, not sure the 295 will go.. Any advice is apreciated...

Pretty sure Jangy back in he day ran a 265 in the front. That may have been a 265/35/18 tire though. Find a set of rears Viren and run them in the front.

I was going to do a tire swap at home just to see if they rub but I do not have a torque wrench so after taking a tire off I won't be able to screw them back on to the right spec 130 lb/ft I believe.
K imma gonna try soon cuz tom car is going in for alignment and other stuff and let you guys know wish me luck. I hope traction doesn't go berserk with 265 in front and 245 in back lol

Doesn't staggered arrangement dictate the difference of size from front to rear ? 255/35 front and 265/35 rear is less than 20 mm of difference
Anyone would like to go try 265/35 front ? and then 285/30 in the back well rear we know 285/30 would fit on stock rims

I would have to agree I would also prefer the rear tyres slightly higher than the front. I did read an article many years ago that AMG may not have made the best decision when the sidewall height of the front tyress and overall diameter of the front tyres were slightly higher than the rear on these cars. Interesting to hear what other people think about this.

Hi
Has anybody had any problems with running 285/35/18 tyres on the rear of a standard E55?
I want to keep using the standard wheels and suspension but don't want the tyres to rub on the car.

I was running Michelin PS 2's from a SL55 on my stock E55 rims, front 255/40/18 and rear 285/35/18. All was great! No rub, better cornering and nice ride, looks great too with the wide rears.
I recently switched to 19in Vossen with 255/35/19 front and 285/30/19 rear but I am rubbing slightly due to the aggressive offset, I will have to roll my fenders on all 4 corners. All the best to your wider tires!!
