2004 E55 Transmission problem

Experiencing a few second delay when engaging drive from either park or reverse. If I press the gas before I feel the transmission completely engage drive I feel what I would call clutch chatter. Also, the shifter is making a different noise when shifting between park, reverse, neutral, drive, etc. There are no apparent problems when driving. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any codes or fluid leaks? Have you checked the fluid level?
Last filter/fluid change? Could be simple, or major. My symptoms were the same as yours though it ended with the latter.

I have a 2005 E55 with only 16k miles, and I have the same issue....a delay in transmission engaging into Drive after shifting from Reverse or Park. Do you think a fluid change will correct this?

I think they all have a minor delay. You should really give any car a few seconds to engage.

A small delay is normal on the three I owned. Maybe 1/4-1/2 second. You said a "few second" delay. Did you mean few seconds delay? If so, I would check that out. Add that to the other items you mentioned like chattering and shifter noise and I'm going to guess there is a problem.
As previously mentioned, check your fluid level first.

Should not have a noticeable delay at all. 'one one thousand' at normal pace. It should be in gear at that time. If it is 2 seconds or more I say there is an issue and would check trans fluid level first. My car after the rebuild is in gear within the 'one one' mark if that makes any sense. I also recommend resetting adaptions as it is easy and quick to do.

These have some sort of electric motor to shift gears instead of the old school cable setup correct? Could it be something to do with this?
