Do you check tire pressure often?

Regardless, at least that tire was shot. I had that happen to me on a near new $350 tire.

It's the wifes CLS and she was driving with my little ones in the car. She said it started to ride funny so she pulled over to check.

Check tire preasure alot. South FL roads suck. The tire really wasn't shot. It has really bad inner tire wear.

yes. They came with the wheels I got from B. Gorman. The wheels suck too.

I'm glad the wife and children are ok

The Hankooks are fine tires.

Stick with MB rims and have a MB dealer perform an alignment immediately after you have the new tires installed.

Otherwise you just dodged a bullet. Safety first.

It was shot.

My car doesn't wear the inner tire nearly as bad as yours, yours may be lower though ( mines pretty low as it is ).

About every 5,000 miles I flip the tire on the wheel to avoid this happening. I do it on the fronts only though since they wear out BIG TIME on the inside. I don't bother with the rears because they have worn out near even.

Haters crazy
Had the same thing happen to my both tires this past summer.. It was a the combination of, summer heat, sport 2 setting, being super low, driving aggressively (twistys), which eventually made the tires fail.

RedBull-
Good to know the family is safe. I had my rear passenger side tire do the same thing. Like the seam burst. Lucky I was just pulling out of a parking lot and not on the Interstate.
My tire had alot of tread. Was told that the sport setting 2 really creates negative camber which short lives these tires.
You would think with all of the sensors our cars have that when a tire is shredding like this especially from the inside that some kind of early warning would alert the driver.
Just like you keep checking your rearview mirror after you have been rear ended, I'm checking my tires all the time now !!!

Glad to hear everyone is OK.

And a more basic question. What size is the tire? And what is the wheel width? What's pictured can also happen when a tire is mounted on a rim size it was designed for.

My personal opinion of hankook tires isnt exactly a good one. I'll just say theres a reason its pretty much the cheapest 20" tire you can buy. Which is why they usually come on the rims from shops trying to market a well priced wheel and tire package.

I've had the V12s on a 370Z and a Jaguar S-Type R with no issues.

Negative Camber

Ran across someone's burnout today... Whoever did this told me they were in comfort mode, but I definitely see the negative camber in the tread marks that were left and the rear tires are worn pretty bad on the inside. Maybe it happens in all suspension settings, because the car stays in comfort all the time.

I don't like Hankook tires. Kept getting bubbles with them on any car I had them on. I'm a Michelin/Pirelli guy always now. They're a lot but for a good reason. They grip, drive, and burn out very nicely. I feel the difference, especially with Pilots

I don't like them either, they came on the sh*ty wheels I got from B. Gorman. I'm an Invo guy myself.

If it's the wifey's car...the "taxi cab" as my gl550 is w/ the kids everyday, i gotta say get the Pilot Sports and know the crew is safe Their pricey but let's face it...so are the wife and kids and we just smile and are thankful.
