This may not be the car for you... you are looking for someone to spoon feed you all the information... read every thread in this section... and make your own decisions. no disrespect to your Mazda but any German car that is fun to drive is going to need care unlike your mazda... Gassing up and going isnt really an option in any of them... they are high maintenance cars. And you may be ok with it breaking cause you will have a warranty... but are you going to be ok being with out a car while its getting repaired?
More than likely it will always want or need something

how many days per year are you guys without your cars (because of repairs)?

If this is going to be your "daily" car you should probably have a backup car too.

A better question might be to ask how many people own the E55 as their sole source of transportation? I get the feeling that the majority of guys here use it as a 2nd car (non-commuter) so they can deal with DIY repair attempts and/or time at the dealer for repairs.

Purchased my '06 back in 2009. It doesn't have all the bells & whistles (ie, push start, dynamic seats, pano roof, etc.). Since I never had those, I don't feel I missed out. Car has been great...no issues, just normal maintenance and wear & tear stuff (tires, brakes)
