2004 E55 AMG
So I guess get an extended warranty on your S600 or CL600 and none of the additional maintenance costs really matter?

My dream car is a CL65 or S65 but aren't both their brake systems (rotors and pads) which would not be covered under warranty expensive to replace? I heard something like $4k for new pads and rotors all around?

For an E55 that would be ~$550 and the braking/stoping distances are similar I believe? So just for regular none warranty maintence a S55, CLS55, CL55, E55 might be the way to go?

Still to have a 700HP, comfortable, daily driver...oh my...

65 Chevelle Wagon w/ C5 frame, 08 ML63, 04 S600, 04 E55,(sold) 00 ML55,(sold) 98 C43-55K Swap
I think if you buy a car that cost $185,000+ 5 years ago that now sell for $25-35k, $1-2k a year to maintain isn't bad. You can't think of it as a $25k car. Just my opinion. The early abc systems are a unfortunate money pit. With clean fluid and good accumulaters the valve blocks and pump will last a long time. Hoses will fail ( they opperate at 185 bar of pressure!) and front struts last about 60k before the upper mounts go bad. It is a incredible system though. I'll still take it over airmatic any day. A good warranty that covers abc will be well wort the $

At the stealership it would cost over $5K for pads and rotors all around.

E55 AMG, CL65 AMG, S8, S6, E30 M3, Z3MC
Well, since I own both cars, I think I can chime in on this one. The CL600 V12TT is a monster on the highways. Anytime we are taking a long trip anywhere, the CL600 is the car we automaticly go to. Its nicer to be in for long periods of time. The E55 is a whole lot of fun around town compared to the CL600. With the instant TQ of the E55, the short bursts of speed from 10-50mph are a blast. The CL feels pretty heavy compared to the E55 when going around turns as well.

As far as maintanice costs, they are about the same. I have a warranty on BOTH of my Mercs. But I would not say the CL with its V12 has more problems than our E55.
