I love the 55's but 600 hands down, I ran 12.0 bone stock and 11.4 on 20's on a mail in tune. Add some bigger turbos and intercoolers and make 777rwhp on pump! Look> https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...yno-sheet.html

Same year/condition/mileage E55 and CL600, the CL would actually be a few thousand dollars more. E55 advantages are gas mileage, number of seats, 4 doors, lighter car, airmatic instead of ABC suspension (cheaper to repair), panoroof option just looks cool esp with solar panels, maybe cheaper to insure, real AMG badging, and I'm sure I left some things out. I agree with others that a tuned CL600 is faster than a stg 1 E55.

Also E55 has the V8 Kompressor repair bills as opposed to the V12 that's an attention ***** for mechanics I hear.

Well yes and no, v12 coils are a issue and at $1200 each not a cheap one. However ask anyone who's changed a sc clutch and those cost even more and there just a pulley. Also s/cl's don't have sbc. The key to abc is to allwise keep clean fluid in it. Flush every 2-3 years. Your best bet is to buy what you like and find a well maintained car.

If you can, buy 04 and up of either 55 or 600. 00-02 v12's run from. There not turbo and when the oil cooler starts leaking the heads need to come off. First model year of the 211 had the most issues of the 211. 03 s/cl had older command systems with a larger display. 04 up were DVD with a better fiber optic system

e55 amg
if any of you guys had to do it again would you buy a cl600 over your e55 or buy a e55 over your cl600
keep in mind my cl600 would probably get a ecu and tcu tune and the e55 would get a stage 1 maybe stage 2 down the road
also since everyone is saying the cl600 is faster how much? I've heard the cl600 with just a tune can run deep 11's like 11.2 and an e55 stage 1 runs about 11.6?

is older CL just looks too dated to me. i love the new style CL's but they are still close to $70k for the V12's...

Neither are cheap to maintain. You have to expect the unexpected. Your best bet is to find a local mb tech that does side work or find a good shop through this site. Meny indipendents around me sell people stuff they don't need then they bring it to my dealer to be fixed properly.

The CL600/65 is like dating a super model with a crack and heroin addiction. They will rob you blind and drain your bank account. The V12 with the exception of the coil packs and idler pulley is dependable. However, the ABC suspension is a real pain and VERY expensive to repair.
I dumped around $10K into my CL600 the year before I sold the car on ABC, coil packs, intercooler pump, and other small repairs. I went through two ABC pumps and just about every hydraulic line.
With that said, I'm thinking of getting another and doing the Speeddriven turbo upgrades.

Yes, the bi-turbo V12 is addictive and having over 700 RWHP with the Speeddriven kit is very tempting. I think if you are proactive and change the accumulators and hoses every three to four years as preventative maintenance it would diffuse much of the ABC failures. When a hose fails, it causes the ABC tandum pump to run dry and grenade the pump. After the pump fails, it sends tiny metal partices into the system and starts to take down the valve blocks and stuts.
You are pretty much stuck with bad coils every 50,000 to 70,000 miles. That's a guaranteed $2,200 + labor unless you install yourself. No way around the bad coil packs but I think the ABC problems can be mitigated.
