Rear vents blowing nothing but HOT *** air!!!

The rear vents are only blowing hot, regardless of whet the rear settings are.

I run AC a lot, and the center console used to be cool due to the cold air blowing under it. Now, it is HOT. I just pulled my phone out of there after an hour drive, and it is too hot to hold.

Is there a separate heater core for the rear vents, and has anyone ever had this happen? I assume there is a heater control somewhere that got stuck open.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a fix for that , heater valve under hood, near windshield, under plastic. Remove wiper arms for easier access and repair.

EDIT: Here you go

LOL, seems to be a common issue. One of my first repairs. If memory serves, I removed the silver arms as well for easier access.

The part number in the DIY is for cars WITHOUT Aux heater option (228)... I assume we do not have this??

love goooogle-

I found this reference to the heater on an obscure web page -

'The auxiliary heater (Zusatzheizung, code 228) is a separate heating
system that works independently of the engine. It consists of a
separate burner unit, an electric water pump, a control unit and it
is connected to the coolant circulation of the engine. It is run on
the fuel of the car (either diesel or petrol, these are different
units for obvious reasons) with a separate fuel line from the tank.
This makes it independent from an electrical outlet and from the
engine. It is started either manually, with a timer (mounted on the
center console or in the glove box) or via a powerful FM-wireless
remote (the Mercedes units for from about 500 to 1000 meters
depending on local circumstances. The latest versions are available
with mobile phone remote control as well.

Once it is started, a spark plug ignites the burner which heats the
coolant up and the water pump recirculates the water through the
engine. The system heats the coolant up to 80°C and works until that
temperature is held in circulation. Once the temperature of 55°C is
achieved, a separate relay starts the heater blower and this heats up
the interior.

Even at very low temperatures in Alpine or Siberian regions, this
heats up the engine and the interior within 20-30 minutes. Apart from
a warm seat when you step in, the heat melts all snow and ice on the
windows without further ado.

Very comfortable and a must in Southern Germany, Switzerland and
Austria.

Many German Taxis have it as well since it helps them keep warm in
Winter when the wait and have no engine running.'

ordered the parts- $50 including new wiper clips (8) (says I need them) and the o rings (3)

I used an online place that I have used for years. importec The guy sounds Australian when ever i call, and he is the only guy I have ever spoken too- but stuff gets here in a day, its OEM and the price is right. I used to get all my incidentals for my M3 there as well..

2005 E55 AMG
It was my FIRST repair in my E55. My second was the I/C pump. My third was the SBC reservoir, my fourth was my S/C bearing. Hmmmmm....seems like I knocked almost all the common occurrences off the list. Next...Airmatic.

Vents are blowing *** air??? Sounds gross!

On my cross country trip, my front vents shat out really hot air and I just had to cycle through the temp settings. Strange.
