What would you do? (E55 vs SL55)
I thought this would be an appropriate question for this forum. I'm considering trading in my 2004 E55 for a 2004 SL55.
My car: 2004 E55, 87k miles, loaded (except Distronic and Pano), mods in sig, aftermarket warranty for another ~50k miles, clean title and CarFax, paid for.
Possible trade: 2004 SL55, 42k miles, loaded (except Distronic), Kleemann mods installed by Vivid Racing (pulley, headers, cams, ECU tune, LSD), clean title and CarFax
We have gotten down to my car + $10,000. The payments wouldn't be bad if financed over 36-48 months. Obviously, I love not having a car payment and the extended warranty, but this car is in great condition, has lower miles, and is an obvious beast. Plus it would be nice to fill up my car the entire way and not smell gas all over. I'm not sure if any cooling mods have been done to the SL. Any help would be great.

If you don't need more than 2 seats, get the SL. I thought about it too, but with 2 kids, I wanted to be able to drive the car I got anytime I wanted to. The SL didn't give me that option.

Just the wife and me for now, but I'm sure kids will be in the future. I told her I could sell the car when it came to that. It's tough trying to convince her this would be a "practical" move. I'm telling her about the low miles, wind in her hair, and an actual spare tire. She's slowly warming up.

Looks like I'm going to be trading in the E55 for the SL55. I spoke w/ Cory @ Kleemann about the mods to the car and if I needed upgraded injectors or a fuel rail. He said I should be fine as is with the Kleemann mods and Kleemann ECU file. Also, called MB of Princeton and grilled them on the service records and everything sounded good.
That said, I have a W211 carbon fiber diffuser from Suvneer in the box, never opened. $200+shipping gets it. PM me if interested.

Get the SL brotha. There is nothing like it, having the top down in the spring and fall, with loads of power on tap.
It will make you reliaze why convertible sports cars are where its at. The best thing is that you can have that hard top up in second,s and have a coupe that can run 10's at the strip when need be.
Not to mention it is CERTIFIED in my book

Here's a couple of pics. I'm getting them to put the stock mufflers back on because I think the tips stick out too far and don't like the look. Agree?

Totally agree on the tips. I don't mind the look, but sticking out 3"+ past the bumper is a no-go. Do y'all happen to know if the 2004 SL's had sat radio or an iPod aux jack as an option?

Several MB's Superperformance MK III Cobra
I have owned both an E55 and SL55 at the same time. The fit and finish and the small touches really sets the SL head and shoulders above the E. All of the other posts favoring the SL are valid. Good choice!!

I'm with you on the wheels. The wheels will be getting switched rather quickly, but I should probably leave it as is for a little while since I promised the wife I wouldn't "tinker" with this one. Luckily, this particular SL already has plenty of "tinkering", so I still win!

Keep those rear mufflers, just take it to an exhaust shop and get them to cut about 2-3" out of the axel back and reweld, simple and should be no more than $100.
The sound must be amazing, so just keep that Adelaide back.
