Sheesh, there are some nasty cars debuting this year, namely the ZL1 Camaro

Lucky for me and the domestic beasts, but I am not a big interior, options, gadget guy. The simpler, the better. For me, I am in total bliss sitting in a 500rwhp fox body mustang with rollup windows as I am in a 06 E55.
I never use any of the crap that is in my E55, never.... For me, it would be perfect if the E55 I got came with a race package, or option delete, LOLL!!
Now back onto the Camaro, I think the ZL1 with auto tranny, big stall, VB, and TCU tune with a monster cam and 150 shot, Longtubes, upper and lower pulley, CAI and a custom dyno tune on top of the already great platform, would call for a hard to beat package. Offcourse I would leave the rest of the exhaust alone and install electric cutouts right off the headers. What is great about the LS motors is that they love to run on open headers, making around 15-20rwhp with the cutouts open.
When they hit the local dealerships soon,I will be sure to test drive one to its fullest and let the fellas know what we are up against.

FBO 2005 E55 w/ LSD
^both my H/C Z06 and my first GTO w/ big cam and my buddies big cam CTS-V lost crazy power with cutouts open right off after the collectors. Noticeable decrease in torque for sure, im guessing because there was very little backpressure.

I am surprised they're using an IRS with that much power. I would have figured they would have went with a solid rear axle, especially taking into consideration how many owners will track these cars.

Why? Most companies have already mastered IRS setups to the point where solid axles are useless. Vettes and Vipers have IRS and they work great. F-bodies have solid axles and they suck ( the entire unit has to be replaced with an aftermarket setup to hold big power ). Even the CTS-V, which had a crappy IRS setup in the 1st gen, now has a setup that seems to hold big power.

Look at the simple generation transformation from the 2000 Cobra R (irs) equipped, to it's latest replacement, the Laguna Seca Boss 302 (Solid equipped). Ford even admitted it was a HUGE mistake to put the IRS into the terminator (03/04) cobra, it has never put another IRS in any mustang since, why, because once you get to a high HP level, the IRS just cannot handle the power like a solid will.
Mark my words, this year when some members invest in Weistec blowers, the IRS on our cars are going to start having problems like we have never seen before.
That is why I said going from a low 500rwhp E55 to a low 600rwhp E55, you are going to start encountering problems that have not been seen before. The terminator IRS has aftermarket products out for it that are WAYYYYYY ahead of anything avaibale to the E55 IRS. Even with that support from the aftermarket, you still see horendous wheel hop at the 600HP level, even with built CV joints, hubs, DSS level 5 shafts, you dead hook to hard, and SNAP....

I'm partial to solid rear ends also and i fought the IRS with my cobra and a GTO but things have come along ways too. The biggest problem with IRS is the cost it takes to make them bullet proof. I had everything done on my cobra and never had a problem but my after fighting my GTO and spending thousands on hubs and gforce axles and everything else i ended up putting a ford 8.8 in and problem solved. Theres been several 7 second supra's and some corvettes too but again im sure it would of been easier/cheaper to go with a solid rear.

I'm psyched what Ford & GM are doing. Corvette has owned ALS for a while...no one would even race them basically... The Mustang is getting serious... Their drivetrains and price points are just about the best in the world. But fit and finish still has a ways to go. That said...most of the people who buy them (Camaros & Mustangs) really don't care about that as much as people who will buy a BMW or Mercedes.
All cars are evolving so quickly that I'm almost now starting to expect this from all mfgs.
I still think a tt E63 tuned well vs. a ZL1 will still hold its own. Yep...it's more expensive...but it's still better.
My first and only trip to the track there was a sick SLP ZL585 Camaro that everyone was watching and talking about. I was hoping I would get lined up against this "11.4 sec 1/4" beast (and this one had additional work). My last run I did. And I totally walked him.![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Dumbest statement I have seen come out of your mouth in a while
Solid equipped cars are where its at on the track and autocross.

Maybe FORD has yet to learn how to make an IRS setup but there are Vettes, Vipers and Supras in the 7's on their IRS setups.
But that's not what I wanted to get at, since 1/4 mile isn't everything and solid axles ARE better for 1/4 mile. It's everything else they suck at.
you want to talk Autocross? FAST cars in circuit racing use solid axles? I've never heard of such a thing since EVERY SINGLE Ferrari, Corvette, Viper, GT-R, Porsche, Lambo, BMW, etc. uses IRS.
If solid axles were so AWESOME, why is it that Formula 1 cars have been so slow in taking on this AWESOME technology.

Wait...even Ford's very own GT is IRS...what were the thinking!!!???

WTF did Chevy take down the 750 hp ZL1?
All I can find now is a 580 hp on their website?
Are there two ZL1's ?

I....am not a fan of the new Camaro Styling, would much prefer the CTS-V. Victory Red and Crystal Red Metallic look great! Just better in a z06 :-).
I have to say I'm pretty excited about the upcoming GT500 w/ the 650hp engine as well as the Boss 302 of course, either way it's going to be some great comparos in the future...can't wait to see how these cars do.
GT-ER keep in mind the new GT500 is going to have launch control, also matters if you spring for the Torsen LSD as well in the performance package...

On the race course, the heavier Camaro and lack of comparative power makes it even more of a detriment...

I don't care how much it runs stock, it's the aftermarket the ones that are going to have a ball with this car.
