Violent wheel hop when ESP is on...
Once I turn ESP off, the tires spin freely.
It has never happened in the past, so what do you think could be the culprit?
The differential? Since it's not throwing any codes, my warranty company won't authorize the labor to get it checked out.
Have any of you experienced this before? I stuck...

Could be, but it has never done it before.
I know. It wheels hops from a 20mph roll, but hooks from a dig. It never used to wheel hop, and I've had it for over two years now.
Maybe it's the surface of the road? Cupped tires? Failing air strut?
Also, the differential/transmission clunks around, and it even down shifts on it's own from time to time.

Check for soft bushings in the control arms in the back. Not too familiar with how the suspension is setup on these cars but work out bushings could cause issues.
Also make sure no bolts are broken/missing. Read about a few of these issues with the rear suspension.
How many miles on the car?

wheel hop is a traction issue and its doing it with tc on means the car is cutting just enough power to get it to almost grip and hop.
I get that all the time depding what type of road im on in the cold.

I wouldn't worry about mechanical bits being the culprit, JMHO.
Turn that TC off and have a ball.
Go dyno mode and poop your pants.

Thanks, guys! My transmission was clunking around and the car was downshifting on it's own. Still does it, somewhat, but not as bad. I took off the negative battery terminal to reset the ECU and TCU, and well, it drives 1,000,000 times better! Super happy!

Glad to hear you've resolved this. I've always wondered what causes wheel hop on our cars cos I was getting them recently when the weather got really cold down here but since my rear struts have been replaced, I haven't had it happen again. Wheel spins freely.
