Only a 6.2L Raptor Extended Cab otherwise a Diesel 6.7L, Cummins or Duramax for the win!!! Raptors are SICK SICK trucks, Jeep should consider going down this path with Jeep Speed

Nothing like dumping a particle canister on a BMW M3 with the top down when you beat him off the line!!!

Good Luck!

good discussion gents. My brother is a manager at a ford dealership so I'm going to drive one this weekend. As i work with clients daily I'm going to test it in a couple parking garages as it will be my daily driver.

will be interesting I currently drive slowly at an angle to not scrape the bottom. Would need to make sure i don't scrape the top.

Also I normally circle looking for wide parking spots to stay away from door dings. Now i will just consume a parking spot.

I'm sure you can get a good discount with your brother working there. Heck what a great truck it is! Nat Geo has great shows with Ultimate Factories and that Raptor sure is put together nicely

Are you looking for performance only? or performance and something with a little style? The Raptor definitely has both in spades.

The reason I mention the Diesel Option is that they're pretty much 400 HP, 800 ft lbs, STOCK, with a warranty, and 18-20 MPG. However, there's no style really, just a plain jane looking truck. One attribute is they'll hold their resale much better, which is very nice.

10K added to a Duramax, and you're 650 HP / 1200 ft lbs.

Park both in the middle of a field while there's still some morning dew on the grass....

First one back to the pavement wins!

Best of both worlds, if DVC sees this, hopefully he will post a pic of his two beasts. I believe his lightning is whippled

The advances in tuning have come a long way. Most of the newer engines have tuning available that is smokeless. It's pretty amazing actually.

I could lay down 60 PSI, and not make any smoke at all.

Went the diesel route (w/o giving up an AMG) Ford 08 6.4 crew cab 4x4 about a year ago. Complete 180 from our cars which I liked. Bring on the pot holes, curbs, snow, mud and dirt. The inside is big enough to hold a kegger and the bed long enough to pass out comfortably. And no not while driving.

The Raptor IS better than the Lightning, there's just no comparison and yes it does look like a military vehicle, just give it a matte olive paint job and it would be right at home in Iraq. It's a very sexy car where as the Lightning is not. I respect the bargain aspect and performance of the Lightning but I'm just stating facts. Even Chawkins agreed the SVT isn't necessarily a downgrade from the E55 whereas the Lightning is and he owns one. The Lightning is a great car and has alot of potential and doesn't look bad but the Raptor is in a different league. Think of the Lightning as an F-5 to the Raptor being....well an F-22 Raptor The car looks like sex, women get alot of crisis when they see it (Top Gear reference if you didn't get it)

On the other hand, going from a E55 to a Raptor is not a down grade for the following reasons:
  • Raptor has new better technology
  • Way better interior than the outdated e55
  • Has the capability of running super fast at the track and going duning all in one package.
  • And for me, the aftermarket is WAYYYYYYYYYYY better which is a win win in my book.
Here are some pics on Livernois Stroked (6.6 litre) Twin Turbo setup:

You cant tell me this thing does not have a presence. This truck has a lift on it which I would not do, if anything I would lower is slightly from the factory
I agree with you on everything Craig except the interior part, I'm sorry but the W211 has an amazing interior. You just cannot compare the look, feel and luxury of the W211 to the Raptor. The Raptor has a nice interior, there's nothing wrong with it and looks modern but it's like a big Tonka truck whereas the W211 is a luxury car. Hell I even prefer the W211 interior over the W212s and after seeing a couple of non-AMG W212s on the road I think I prefer the exterior alot more too (facelifted W211).

Plus the Raptor body rolls and feels like a truck on the road compared to the E55 so the technology thing is kind of irrelevant since they're just 2 different cars. The E55 would DIE offroad but the Raptor doesn't drive as well on road and doesn't feel as nimble which is to be expected from a truck. They're both AMAZING in what they're designed to do. As I said earlier for me it would be an E55 over the Raptor but I'm like to own both at the same time. I fell in love with the Raptor as soon as I saw it

The days of getting great mileage in a new diesel are gone due to emissions. Regenerating the diesel particulate filters eats up a lot of fuel. Some of the new diesels get almost as crappy mileage as a gas equivalent. The used market for early/pre 07 diesels is VERY strong right now due to this. Lots of people want the older trucks that still get great mileage, can make tons of power, and are actually still reliable. 07+ doesnt have anything that can do all three of those well.

03-06 common rail cummims is where its at with what you get for your money right now in my opinion.

Well it was so wide on the Hennessey dyno that the tire stuck out so for me at least I'd say it's big enough It's pretty tall too, it has a Hummer H2 type of presence. Very menacing car

Only reason a diesel shluld smoke is your laggy turbo hasn't spooled up yet, or you have too much fuel and not enough turbo to back it up. Smoke does NOT equal power. That or your lugging the motor on purpose. Say going to 5th/6th gear on a manual trans at 30mph and flooring it. You will smoke like a locomotive but watch your exhaust gas temps before you melt the motor down.

That said I have smoked out a few priuses and annoying people on bicycles in my truck.

That's def one of the meaner looking chevy's I've seen. Deleting the emissions junk is the way to go, but voiding the warranty on a 45-70 thousand dollar truck just isn't a gamble I would be willing to take. lol

Here's my old rattle trap.

And what I use to show the prius's how I feel about them. lol

Dig it man, I had a '96 12valve previous.

I bought mine out of warranty, so off it all went!

If I got a truck it would probably look like this, big wheels and drop that beotch. And definitely turbo diesel with some goodies to make it fast.

[quote=motorkas;5052740]Learned 3 things from that first video:

1) I want one
2) HALO trainers are even more insane than I thought "what do you call second place....'first loser'"
3) I may have to lift my ban on American Top Gear - that segment was definitely worthy of Jeezer, Hamster and Slow.....[\quote]

There is nothing on this or any other planet that would make me lift my ban of American TG, it's terrible.

Do it. RAPTOR = AWESOME!!! I want one.... First time I saw a raptor in a rich dudes stable. I called my friend to ask WTH it was. Because it looked so mean and wide in person. He said it's my E55 that goes off road and hung up.
