I myself just ordered a set of hankook V12 i heard alot of good things about them so i hope they work out ok. Right now i have on Potenza and im surpised at how balled they are but yet almost no road noise but no traction.

loved that car, was somewhat a sleeper as it could do 140+ pretty easily - yet looked like a family sedan

Toadster,
It doesn't matter if you're a streetlight racer or an "old man" driver...your E55 is going to melt the DWS's on the rear in 10,000 miles, just like it will to any "PROPER" tire. All-season tires will not work on an E55. Period.
Plus, you have zero chance of driving this car without punching it. It is far too intoxicating not to.
If you punch it with those tires on, your rear end will feel like mashed potatoes.

alot of the new guys will see that there is no street tire that will last with a modded e55.
Im debating r888 slicks or the z214 slicks, the mickeys are just too tall and kill your top end at the track.

Iv had my car for 3 years and every summer I need new rears.I have no first gear at all and the only tire that put down the power in first was the mickey thompson drag radials.

I'm willing to try a cheaper set for my first round instead of burning away extra $$ adapting to the beast...
more than likely I'll need new rears sooner than later - but it's in the 30's right now in the morning and everyone says the sticky tires are useless when it's this cold... maybe by summer I would need 'stickier' tires
![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
at any rate, I'm getting a great deal on the DWS in Oregon (no sales tax either) so I'm not too concerned... there are always a lot of tires for sale on CL around here or the bay area.

methinks a competition to see who's tires could last the longest is futile ![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
but what's the LEAST amount of miles on a set of tires? any heavy roasters out there?![drive](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/driving.gif)

I have Continental DWS tires on mine, just went a bit wider than the stock 18"s. (I have 18's stock wheels.) They are quiet and have a 540 mile treadwear rating which I needed based on my 100 mile daily commute.
So I recommend these more for durability vs. raw performance. See the video in my sig below were you can see how they hook up pretty well. (Traction control is on, granted).
My $.02.

I've had 2 06 E55s, both daily drivers.
Put the DWS on the 1st sedan. I can reinforce the sentiments of others. Even on a stock car the traction control will be on all the way through 1st, and mine would light it up intermittently in 2nd on cold days. That said, the DWS is an impressive all around tire and is easy to live with on a DD. It is smooth, quiet, impressive in the wet, and decent in moderate amounts of snow. If your driving style is more to enjoy all the mid-range supercharged torque than to floorboard it away from every traffic light, then you'll likely be happy with the DWS. They do take a set, so expect some highway vibration until they warm up.
The 2nd E55 is a CPO wagon. It came with a fresh set of Michelin PSS installed. Quite a different flavor. They are typical Michelin - extremely smooth at elevated speed, quiet (so far -not a lot of miles on them yet), and noticeably more sticky. Tradeoffs - the stiffer sidewall is very apparent in ride quality. Down near freezing they get very stiff and the ride is a bit harsh. And of course, if it snows the car is unusable. Given my stay-out-of-jail driving style, I'll likely go DWS or equivalent when the PSS are worn.

I dont see anyone mentioning the contisportcontact 3. Why is that? Im about to purchase tires for the front and back. The sizes will be 245/40 18 and 275/35 18. Which tires would be best? And since the load rating on the 275 is not xl does it matter?
Im on stock power right now.

pretty much the biggest consensus on here is the Michelin PSS is #1 if you're looking for the best traction (outside of a street slick) but you'll have some pretty quick wear on them... 8-12k miles
I personally like the new Conti tires, but haven't tried on an E55

I like Nitto invos for all around price, traction and general performance. Nitto 555`s have been good for nice street tire but lack in traction, as compared to invos. NT05 are cool but they wear down in the blink of an eye and have more road noise.

I use Ventus v12, but im running 255/20 and 305/20 and I was really happy with them so I bought a second set to a surprise that they've jakced the price up significantly. Still a good tire, but i worked for michelin and Michelin, Pirelli, Conti, and Goodyear F1's are the premium performers, so when Hankook starts inching into michelin range, it makes me think twice. If you have the money, buy a Michelin that has right performance / endurance factors that you want. It's not opinion, Michelin has more JD Powers awards than all other tire companies combined, they are expensive but worth it. That being said, i did buy hankooks for the value and the ride was excellent with good wear.
