Cut out the cats and put an x-pipe in. Then remove the resonators. Your car will sound a lot meaner after.

Both. Cut out the stock h-pipe and cats and replace with x-pipe. Also, cut out the resonators and add pipes straight through.

I prefer discharged instead of cut, what do you think?

Do you have emissions testing where you live? If not, then do away with both and do mid pipe/x pipe, straight pipe to the muffler. If too loud, then keep the resonator

I thought so too. Then the additional questions get more and more cryptic. I give up.

what about replacing the resonator with a different one to change the tone, and minimize the drone?

I'm going to empty the pipe / x instead of cut ... Will not touch the resonator in order to preserve the sound .. What do you think?

That makes NO sense. The piping is already 'empty'. Are you talking about punching through the cats? That's really pointless since you will need to cut them off to do that anyways and if you're going through the trouble, you may as well just weld in an x-pipe.

What is the point of gutting the cats and retaining them? Better to just remove cats and put new xpipe.

If you were speaking from experience or from the knowledge gained via extensive searches you've conducted I'd be inclined to listen to you. BUT I don't think I've ever heard the suggestion of trying different resonators mentioned ever!

If you really knew about this car, removing the resonator makes 0 difference to power and the sound change is almost imperceptible.

Please refrain from you senseless contributions until you have some experience with the car.

Anyone have pictures of the undercarriage after replacing the cats with an x pipe and replacing resonator with straight pipes?

I'm afraid if I cut Mufflers and put in place of x-pipe welds to disintegrate after a period of time ... But the question is .. Is it true that the Mufflers empty?

Actually i DO have experience here, in one of my past vehicles it was common to replace the resonator with a different piece which wouldn't do anything but keep the drone at bay, but also give it a different tone for the exhaust - and it worked well...

and if you say
and the sound change is almost imperceptible.
then why does everyone recommend doing it in the first place?

You have experience on a MAZDA not an E55 AMG 2 very different cars! Your experience doesn't translate.

Removing the resonator just makes it cleaner and saves weight... see you just proved your inexperience with these cars!

you seem to take more time correcting him versus giving a legit answer to the original O.P, so whats the point of saying anything at all.

IMO i would do both as said above x pipe and straight pipe.
