How do you know your steering rack is going?
Hey, my rack feels like it has play in it, and makes noise (clicking) if I move the wheel back and forth while the car is off.
My question is, can that be from any of the linkage from the steering wheel to the rack, or is it definitely the rack?

Have you checked your ball joins and control arms etc. to see if there's play or wear before you go to replacing the steering rack?

Check the tie rod ends. There are outer and inner, both are replaceable separatly from the rack.
Otherwise, there are ball joints but typically they give you a "clunk"
Thrust arms and bushings, torque strut bushings. Basically you need to put it in the air and check it over....or you can start spending lots of $$ for nothing!

I wouldnt be so quick to condem the rack. As some others said there are other componants that could do this.

Inner and outer tie-rods are brand new. I checked everything else. I had the car on the lift and pushed on the wheels back and fourth and the noise sounded like it was coming from within the rack. So I was pretty sure it was the rack, just figured I would ask to see if it could be the linkage. The way Shardul described it is exactly what my car is doing.
