Question WTF - Consumer Electricals Turned Off?

After my car has been sitting a few days I get a malfunction code that says something like "Consumer Electricals Turned Off". Never got that one before. Cannot detect anything different and after driving awhile and restarting I don't get the malfunction code. Any idea what's going on?

two most likely possibilities:

1) main and/or secondary battery is going dead and need to be replaced
2) (and this one solved my same issue two years ago) - the cables on your main battery have loosened in the trunk - remove, and retighten and the code should resolve on its own.

Could be

Rear Battery
Underhood battery
Alternator
Voltage Regulator
BCM
K57/2 relay

electrical problems suck, in your case, likely just the battery

Voltage regulator seems to be a popular one that I've heard of a few times with these motors. Easy to replace and much cheaper and easier then a new alternator. Also old batteries, these cars are getting up in age now.

I'd look at getting the batteries load tested and also look at this.

If you need a voltage regulator I have a NIB that I will sell cheap. I bought one and took my car to dealer and had mine fixed under warranty. But they would not use the OEM part I bought.

Consumer shutoff comes on in two stages. First stage is when the battery voltage drops below 11.xx volts, second is when its below 11volts. Once the battery gets recharged during driving the message goes out on its own. If it happened after sitting for a few days, I would suspect either a draw in the system or a weak battery, start by making sure the battery is ok

I got this message awhile back and the dealer replaced the auxillary battery under the hood as the repair. No problems since then.

Thanks

Thanks everyone. I replaced both batteries a year or so ago and didn't get this malfunction code until recently. It should not be the batteries, but the fact that I get the malfunction code abter the car has been sitting a few days in the cold makes me wonder. I wonder if I have something slowly draining the battery or the batteries are not properly charging. Could also be one of the other problems you all ahve raised.

Don't forget it take at least 40 mins of driving to put on a good charge.
