URGENT: NHTSA Opens investigation into fuel leaks on the E55.
Keep blasting Facebook! So long MBUSA, may the force be with you. Keep pissing off OE owners and cpo owners for a few more years and good luck selling cars.
I now own another Audi and the first two letters are RS. Funny really, two RS's and a S6.
I find it interesting that
1. MB is getting by with this coverup by saying its impossible for fuel to leak in the vehicle. Complete BS
2. MB is telling NHTSA that its the dealers fault that leaks are appearing because the dealers are not following proper repair procedures. More BS
3. MB is telling NHTSA that there is no problem because we dont have any warranty claims. Well duh you tell your AMG owners to pound sand so that you dont have to show a claim. The BS is getting even deeper
Luk, let me ask you this. Do you feel safe in your car? Are you ready to take action on Facebook and other social media? Do you really think that its the local dealers fault that cracks develop in these sensors and its faulty dealer service?
Mother of God people! This is complete BS. Where the hell is NHTSA? Is the lead engineer of NHTSA driving a AMG loaner or something?
And finally, Luk unless your ready to pay the 6k today. Take lots of pictures, video any any evidence of your situation. Take out the back seat and soaked insulation. Keep the gas tank under 3/4 tank. Let the seat air out for a couple of weeks and apply chemicals to get the smell out. I think its baking soda or something. Get hold of GregMB on this forum as he is in touch with NHTSA engineer. Send all your pics to NHTSA.
Never ever fill your car past 3/4 and enjoy it for what it is.
I took these today showing my current ride height for another thread. I love driving the car but its days may be doomed. Wife asked again last night when she get the S8.

Audi has had a slight problem with fuel tanks on the C5 chassis. This includes the old Allroad, some S6 models and the RS6 chassis. Audi issued a recall to help prevent any gas tank leaks but in the event of any gas tank leak in a RS6 for no matter how old, numbers of owners or mileage....Audi will replace the entire fuel tank no questions asked. None, zero nada cost to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and so on owner. No matter how many miles on the RS6. 100k? no problem, 150k? no problem.
Replace the tank on a 9yr old RS6 with 158k miles? Yep, no questions asked at zero cost to the owner.
Comeone MBUSA get yer s@#t together. Just fix the ones that leak and call it good.
Go to the AMG Youtube channel and start blasting some of the new AMG commercials. I really doubt they could keep up with deleting all the negative comments on that media.
Blast Youtube AMG channel.

IMHO, the "smoking gun" for this whole issue is hidden in the redacted information from MBUSA provided to NHTSA for "Request #10"....
This is the specific request where NHTSA requires MBUSA to provide a list of all replacement parts (and quantities) purchased by MB dealers nationwide to address fuel leak complaints. You can bet that there are countless fuel pumps / senders and complete fuel tanks in that redacted list......

This is where that photo of the "pile of replacement fuel tanks" at the dealers would be revealed, and statistically speaking if you were to look at how many fuel-system related parts have been ordered and installed vs any other general population of MBZ vehicles out there..... the E55 would be many standard-deviations away from that "normal" replacement quantity.
I know I've been slacking lately on updating the list and posting it here. There are a few new guys that I need to add, since the last update so I'll try to get that done either later today or tomorrow before the holiday break. Anyone who has recently submitted a claim to NHTSA please send me a PM with your ODI# / Model and Year and I will make sure you get added to the list before I post it up.

Wow, if SUZUKI is offering to do this... MB definitely needs to grow some ***** and help out their fellow owners... this is just ridiculous... it's the EXACT same problem!
I mean, I'm about fed up with this issue and would front the cost to get this finally resolved...at least in the meantime as the NHTSA continues its investigation.

However - I think my car must have been sorted prior to my purchase? I have this sticker on the hood - which looks like it related to this being recalled back when.

.
I see a few people keeping track and I'm more than happy to provide any further info or research the info on this if anyone feels it will help push this investigation along?
But - I'm hoping that i got lucky and it was resolved back in 2009.
Or should I go back to the dealer and find out what was done?
