URGENT: NHTSA Opens investigation into fuel leaks on the E55.

Whomever wrote that article should check their math.
The return rate of .41 doesn't not mean 41 out of every 100 cars. I'm sure it it supposed to be .41%. (Less than 1 car per hundred sold)
Hyundai recall rate was described as 1.15.... "115 cars recalled for every 100 sold". yeah, sure. They recalled ALL of their own cars, and also recalled 15 from other manufacturers just to be safe....

Talk about the wheels of justice moving slowly. I can't find anything new since late last year on this matter. Engineering Analyses still shows open though. Maybe we should start making some calls and asking some questions?

2005 E55, 1959 220s Cabriolet, some other stuff too...
NHTSA nor Mercedes will do anything about it. I am a past owner of 2 E55s (2004 and 2005)...it is very disappointing. What this does is makes you look around at the value proposition of other manufacturers and what they are offering and their support, etc. Mercedes service is horrible too. They have to absolutely soak you every time to go to the dealer. It is not a surprise that nothing has happened with this issue. I doubt anything every will.

What about leaking fuel issue in Australia?
Does anyone know if there is anything can be done or is there a course of action for e55 owners in Australia who are experiencing similar problems? I live in a rural location and often drive long distance so not being able to fuel up completely is a big issue for me.

Is this Issue Dead?
Is this a dead issue? I have the fuel smell in a 2004 CLK55 AMG, and can even have fuel on the ground if I park the car on a hill (like my driveway). I have researched the issue as it pertains to the E55 and my car has the same symptoms. I will emphasize that my fuel leak appears to be on the driver's side.

What do you mean is this a dead issue? You didn't state much of a real question in your post, but I will point out for you that there is a sticky about this in the W211 section probably with lots and lots of info in it https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...4-12-23-a.html

Call your dealer and see if your car would be covered under the extended warranty for the fuel tank. As far as I've read it's only for W211 models though.
