Wouldn't it be easier to make a Google Form and have everyone submit their forum name, NHTSA ODI #, Year and Model? That way you won't have to constantly update it. Just a thought...

Hey GregMB

Novae500 has both a E55 and a E500 in case you are wondering.
CIj911 has a 2006 E55.

Call me a control freak, but I wouldn't want to allow uncontrolled updates to the master document. It could end up creating a lot more problems than it solves... I don't mind adding the names manually and being the "gatekeeper" for the group.

All I really need is help from the membership to tell me what goes in all the empty cells and I can do the rest.

I cleaned out my PM box just before starting this project. There is PLENTY of room, and I welcome everyone to try to fill it with as much detail and as many ODI#s as you can!

Did you file a report with NHTSA? If you still have the VIN# on any of your paperwork you can file it now to get us an ODI# for this list.

Thanks!

Update as of 10/3/2012:

A total of 115 affected members, with only 26 cases reported officially to NHTSA... we can do better than this!

I just sent out approximately 90 individual PMs to the members on this list who have incomplete information.....

Hopefully, we can get a lot more of these blank cells filled-in soon.

I'm not going to post a new list until tomorrow (Friday) but I wanted to let you all know that the list is now up to 119 members with a total of 32 official ODI#s filed with NHTSA....

That's only a 27% ratio of reports filed vs. actual issues seen, but it's a good start!

Please help me to get the word out to the members on the list who only have blank data next to their names. I'm sure there are some members who have left the site and aren't likely to ever check back in here, but there are still plenty of active users who can be persuaded to provide data and file with NHTSA to help the cause.

I'm doing what I can to help. This site has done plenty for me over the last couple of years of E55 ownership, so I'd like to give a little back when I can.

Does anyone feel like helping with a few small side-projects?

1. What are the total US-production numbers for the E55 for 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006? The vast majority of claims so far are on the E55, so I'd like to correlate the failure counts directly to those production numbers to show the failure percentages. The E55 production numbers are really low, so even a small number of reported failures represents a significant percentage of the total population.

2. Is there any way to get data from MBUSA on the total number of replacement parts used nationwide? I'd love to see how many W211 fuel tanks, fuel senders, gaskets, etc have been purchased over the last few years since the 2008 Recall campaign was completed. This would be a HUGE data point to prove that the failure rate of these parts is WAY outside the statistical norm. (especially if someone was able to get the same information for the W210 and W212 chassis for comparison!) This would require accurate MBZ part numbers for each item (anyone good at using EPC-NET?) for the searches. My guess is that this sort of data would never be accessible, however it might be available by subpoena if the lawyers pursuing the class-action suit demanded it. NHTSA might have the authority to demand this data also.

3. I read that even when a standard vehicle warranty expires, there is still an 8 year / 80,000 mile warranty on "emissions related equipment" that the manufacturer has to honor. When a fuel tank is leaking like this, there is clearly fuel vapor escaping all of the elaborate charcoal canisters and vapor collection systems that were installed aren't going to work. It seems that the EPA would be a good resource to use to help push this issue as well. They are fanatics about gas pumps having those crazy "vapor collection" nozzles to eliminate even the slightest traces of fuel vapor during re-fueling.... imagine how they'd feel about raw fuel venting to the atmosphere or pooling underneath our cars?

Just a few more ideas I've had as I consider the best way to compile and present this information.

The link from GregD shows a total of 7,937 sedans from 03-06, with another 193 wagons (US-production)

Where did the 6619 number come from? Source?

That 6619 number definitely looks wrong... if there were 7,937 E-Class AMGs made, how are there less for the E-Class?
