Exhaust setting advice please! Shall I remove scondary cat and H pipe ? W211 E63.

hi ~

I am thinking of removing the stock H pipe and secondary cats on my

w211 E63 amg and place a x pipe to reduce back pressure .

However I wasnt sure if putting X pipe is the right thing .

As of now the only thing that is done to my stock exhaust setup is

removing resonator and replaced it with two pipes.

Also I live in California , is removing secondary cat allowed???

Any advice is deeply appreciated ! Thank you .

Putting an X pipe will help balance out exhaust flow from left and right header banks.
I would remove the resonators and add straight pipes and replace the 2ndary cats with an X pipe.
Removing 2ndary cats wouldn't be illegal as long as the primary cats are still intact.
I removed my 2ndary cats and live in C.A. also.

Hey !! Thank you sir !!

Also how much did it cost you ?? I already removed my resonator for $80 at a

local muffler shop. I heard it a bit more than taking out a resonator.

Also Im going for a long tube headers from Kleeman . When I install this

header do I need to remove my x pipe again where my secondary cats are?

Cause if I have to take out the xpipe again , I might as well just wait till

I get my header and then put the x pipe where my stock resonator use to be.

I dont want to wast my money over and over so.

I would just get X-pipe and exhaust if your not planning on doing heavy modding.

No problem!
Resonator delete cost me $90 and I have the MBH X pipe which was around $680. However, your muffler shop can install a universal X pipe for WAY cheaper.
The Kleeman headers are actually shorties that come with HFC's. There is cutting and welding involved (cut is made right before the primary cats) when installing the Kleeman headers with HFC's.
No, you wouldn't have to remove your X pipe becuase the Kleeman setup only replaces the oem log manifolds and replaces the primary cats with HFC's.

my shop wouldn't do the 2ndary cats - wasn't the usual guy, but it's hit/miss with shops being able to do that in CA

So what was the final setup you decided to go with. How it's sound and any sound clip? Mind me asking which muffler shop you went with? Kind of in the same boat as you, doing headers and exhaust .thanks.

? What shop wouldn't do that work? Can't think of even a third rate tech who wouldn't be able to do something so simple / straight-forward?

So our cars will still pass emissions if you leave the primary cats and delete the secondary ones?
