Got the E63 conversion done, but was very surprised when I saw the bill for all the work done.. Installer was not able to give me a quote before it was started (learned my lesson there).. Also never mentioned anything about the cost during the 5 weeks they had the car for.. Lets just say I was not too thrilled when I saw the final outcome.. What do you guys think?

Notice 6 hours labor to fill the holes

$1,636

There are no itemized costs for primer, paint or clear coat, reducers, activators, etc.

It looks like those materials were all "rolled in" to the labor description for the bumper prep, which is probably why the costs seem so high.

Paints and associated chemicals are stupid-expensive these days.

Damn they sure take their sweet time. It shouldn't take that long to prep and/or wetsand/polish a bumper. I'm not really surprised by the bill. Some body shops are just expensive as ****. The time it took them is what would bother me.

Around $1300 in labor for a front bumper prep, paint and install?

I would consider half that to be a moderate price at a higher end body shop.. ~$500 to prep and paint the front bumper and an hour labor to install and line up.

Yeah - I would think it would be around 500-600 in an expensive area. The real question is, how was the work?

What makes it so high is their labor rate is $67-70/hr
Thats high for a body shop. Average body shop in MIA charges $ 40/hr
I've had my C32 and E55 bumper painted for $250/$300 respectively.

My question is how does a shop not no how much something cost especially if you have the item in there hands that seems kind of stupid. I would have walked straight out of that place. Anyway like they said above how was the workmanship i hope it was great?

We have several high end shops here in Atlanta that do amazing work and you pay for it. Pullejo had his done here in the atlanta, and I believe used one of those shops, hopefully he will chime in.

I myself would not have paid that, and been freakin pissed to say the least Andrew.

One of the shops BIP uses cost $250 for a front or rear bumper spray, and the work is good.

Exactly, around $1,300. I was expected $700 tops in labor costs.

They waited about a week after they filled to the holes to paint it. If they would have told me it was $500 just to fill the ****ing holes I would have said see ya.

$402 to fill 6 holes is a bit much. Ouch and wow. I was able to prep mine, fill, reinforce even, sand, for well under that amount of time. I'm thinking 2 hrs total. Plus $452 to color sand and polish, what did they use? A pencil eraser? One, if they laid the paint down correctly, then only a very minimum of color sanding would be required. In fact I had two clear corrections (runs) which I got out, and polished out the rest. No orange peel. WOW. They saw you coming buddy and took advantage of the nameplate on your car.

BUT....if it came out great, then so be it and enjoy the 'new' look. It truly changes the car.

One more thing, if they truly spend that much time on sanding and polishing, make sure you go over it carefully to ensure they did not go through the clear ,especially edges.

Andrew-
The one thing that is accurate on that bill copy you posted is where they say what a pleasure it was doing business with you. I bet it was considering the amount they charged you.
Not sure why they wouldn't provide you at least an estimate of the costs up front.
I have used a high end body/paint shop here in Atl. that BIP sends all of their work and each time, I got an estimate of what the costs would be so I wouldn't be going in blind.
By not providing you with any kind of estimate, it gave them a clear opening to charge you the highest possible amount.
Let us know the outcome if you are able to get a reduction of the bill once you call them out on this.
Hopefully the end result was at least good quality workmanship. From the pics your car looks great.
