A/C compressor is making a whining/groaning noise? Anyone replace it before?

These threads sound like the symptoms I have

"i have the same problem and posted it several times. there is a whining sound that is consistent with the engine speed. the whining sounds like a power steering pump that is low on fluid. the noise is the same with the compressor engaged or not engaged. all of the values are right on through the climate system. i have removed the belt and the pulley moves freely without play."

Having the same problem
B Feelgood did you ever find a solution to your problem? I'm have the exact same issue. I can't pinpoint the noise to any of the pulleys or the transmission pump. I did the same test with taking the belt off but the noise was still there. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Never did find the solution for this and I drove it all summer without any problems. The air conditioning works fine and gets cold. The noise is extremely annoying however and I am looking into replacing the AC compressor "per the dealer's recommendation" since I have nothing else to go on.

Check partsgeek.com I got one for I think $400 - $450 shipped.

Noise
Identical symptoms to the original post. Sounds like the power steering pump is blown but its constant, in every gear. It's the typical cold start whine that doesn't go away. Wondering if it had to do with the a/c compressor.

Hello from overseas.
My name is Arseniy. I am from Kyrgyz Republic. I drive w211 e55 amg like everybody else here. I have read alot of posts here but didn't post much since language barrier.
First of all I want to Thank You everyone who is dedicated to this site and sharing his thought/results. Thank You guys.
My car has similar sound like OP. I uploaded a video to YouTube so other experts can hear and give us thought and clues where to and what to do next or just live with it. This is cold startup without any belts. At the end if the video my car tries to stall (you can hear how the motor goes up and down) i guess it is becouse the main belt is off. Sometimes next week going to shop to use stethoscope.
Any thoughts?

Sounds just like the oil pump. All belts off and noise still there? If you rule out the trans and all the noise is up front it is coming from the oil pump. You can actually here it cavitating at idle as its thinning the oil out when cold when you are standing outside the car. 0-30 oil for me in the winter is much more quiet than when I go back to 0-40. Even tried out Royal Purple today just to see and no change until its really hot from beating on it.

Monday / Tuesday we will try to illuminate transmission pump/tc or any other transmission related Parts.
For motor oil I use Motul 5-40 8100 X-cess. So if it motor oil pump i gues i will live with it until i get to the poit of replacing oil pump tensioner and then we will take a look at oil pump.
Thank you for quick replay.
P.S. SICAMG did you ever figured out or succeeded how to make our transmission to shift faster? I have read all your posts.

Yes. Took some time to understand what the PCM was trying to do all the time. With the help of my Xentry and getting into the transmission pids, f-ing with the valvebody and going back and forth with the TCU she's all set!!

All E55's sound like that. I think some of you guys might be chasing a problem that really isn't there. I have not hear any E55 that does not make those sounds at start up.

Not so much a problem. But can be real annoying when first started cold. It really sounds like crap for a car of this caliber. Anyone who knows me and the car never say anything but others are like what the hell is that!!! No worry's though. Nafina ...on the trans it was all about clearing the tcu adaptations and working in the valve body, in sport it's slightly above stock shifts but m mode nice and firm.

Little update from me:
Today i went to body's shop to use his stethoscope. It is confirmed 100% for oil pump, like SICAMG and MAX.H said.
Thank You to everyone.

Update for noise. My oil was only 200miles old but someone who races suggested Royal Purple 0-40 so I drained it "Mobil 1" and poured in the Royal Purple oil and it is much quitter now. Almost as good as the 0-30 oil for winter. Just some input.

2004 CLK320 W209: For me the noise is only when the air conditioning system is active.
It seems the A/C compressor is ALWAYS on which is silly.
It sounds like the A/C compressor is cavitating internally but the Air is Cold.
How can I disable the compressor when I want only fan air? For now I just turn the whole thing off, it sounds like the A/C compressor is running even when the Heat is on maximum.

A/C compressor noise
Hello, I think it might be AC compressor pulley but not my case - I installed new one. I can stop that sound only if I switch all ventilating system off by button off. If I switch only AC off sound persist and if I put down serpentine belt it's same. I want also know if I can deactivated AC compressor by some fuse? Because I want drive a know if AC compressor make that groaning sound. Thank you. Pavel
