2003 E55 AMG wont upshift after hard acceleration

Hi, I recently purchased a 2003 E55 AMG and have a question about the car, hopefully somebody can answer. I have noticed that after wide open throttle driving and then letting off the throttle completely the transmission will stay in the gear it was in for quite some time. It seems to take about 10 seconds or so before it will upshift and the RPM's come down, usually if I lightly press the throttle. I have it in sport shift mode. If I switch to comfort mode while the rpms are high it will generally upshift. Otherwise the transmission shifts great with no other issues. Is this normal for the "adaptive transmission"? Or is there an issue I should have checked out? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Doesnt the TCU tune get rid of the delay in shifts?

Thanks I didn't think it was an issue but have never driven a automatic that acted this way, I actually like it, reminds me somewhat of a manual and don't have to waste time upshift and downshift again if I want to get back on the throttle hard again

Yeah its setup that way in case you had to hesitate for a second for whatever reason then get on it hard again. If it upshifted then downshifted again real quick its hard on the trans.

He NOT talking about a delay in shifts all the time, only after a romp at WOT!

OP this is normal as the transmission assumes you may want to do this again so it optimizes the gear to give you the best acceleration possible.

Take a look at the following video for an explanation of speed shift, etc (starts around 1:40)
