Why is it so hard to believe that a "box" tune is safe? I'd be happy my box tune is rich with hopefully low timing. (not saying GT-R isnt happy with his safe tune) One of the great things about working with Jerry is if you give him the data he will build you a dyno or road/data driven tune. Jerry FTW. Haha I asked Jerry for a VERY safe tune and it is. No complaints. IMO a little extra fuel is good for these engines.

Oh yeah, I agree. Now that I have my wideband I'm gonna ask Jerry to remove some fuel but without it I agree that it's better safe than sorry.

Anyways, I did a few WOT runs and holy crap....my car from a 2nd gear start ( 40mph ) goes to mid 10's and once it hits 3rd it'll go to low 10's and even hit high 9's every once in a while.

Time to hit up Jerry...lol.
Can you post some pics of how you installed and set your wideband? I too want it, but not sure how?

my car's afr was similar to yours with ec box tune when i went to the miami dyno day and Jerry was able to lean it out to mid/high 11's an picked up 20-30 whp in the 2000-4500 rpm powerband and about 10-15whp up top so def get some fuel leaned out and you should feel a nice pickup as i really noticed it after the dyno tune since i was pig rich like you.

We just got the widebands setup for each bank on the car and I'm sitting right at 10:1 with a 550 tune running 650 injectors so it's time for the updated tune for me as well. How long have you been running your current tune with this setup? Even fat as hell she still spanked a new turbo carrera this morning

hey GT-ER this is sort of OT but considering your mods and all why is that you only ran a 11.8 @ 119? Street tires? Did you warm them up or just roll into it??

I'd like to say about 6 months or more...I can't remember.

Two things hindered my car's performance. I live in Puerto Rico so one is the heat and HUGE humidity, my calculated DA for the day I ran 11.8 was over 2000ft which is pretty bad.

The other thing is that I used regular street tires, I had wheel spin all throughout 1st gear. Only when it hit 2nd could I go WOT.

My car is quick enough to beat a Nissan GT-R on the street though...lol.

Hey gtr one of the version of the torque app has knock that you can view for each cyl,I would setup all 8 and do some pulls and see if your car is knocking a little from the heat you guys have down there.

It could just be running rich from heat etc

Oh...sorry, I thought you meant ambient...lol.

When I start my run ( 40mph ) I see about 100* and at the top of 100-110mph ( mid 3rd? ) I see 135*-140* or so. I can see it dipping into the 9's due to IAT's but it running in mid 10's is still super rich and it'll do so even with the IAT's in the low 100's.

As for knock, I get anywhere from 3-4 degrees of knock retard from any random cylinder at any time now that we went down to 91oct here and on a very hot day. At night I can see 1-2 degrees of retard. I told Jerry this once and he said it's okay.

Yeah but like I said...I can see how it goes to 9's due to IAT's but running mid 10's at 100* is not due to IAT's right? In any case it should start at high 11s and dip into low 11's/high 10's due to IAT.

We have 91 octane here in California too...really bad for performance cars (especially forced induction)....I run Methanol/water injection on my Evo, but don't want to do it with the MB ....Sure wish we had some good 93....

I am in a similar situation and need to get Jerry a logged run and find some time to work with him. Jerry (@ EC) is such a great guy and will always get my business...

Would like to see your AFRs on a colder night but unfortunately on PR that might not happen right now,
Take into account that hot humid air as well, what's your dyno chart look like and what time of the year were you tuned ?

I've changed a few things and haven't dyno'd the car since.

Tonight I can do a run at night but it'll still be mid 80's outside.

Okay, I logged my car today. Ambient temp was 85*.

I did a cold run first ( coolant temp was 160* and IAT's were 85 in the beginning of the run ). In this run I had no knock retard and my IAT's went to 110* from 40mph to 110mph. My A/F ratio was 10.8-11.0 in 2nd and 10.2-10.5 in 3rd.

2nd run, my coolant temp was already 190* and my IAT's were 93* at the start of the run. I had a max of 3 deg. of knock retard on this run and my IAT's reached a max temp of 126* in this run ( again from 40-110mph ). Here my A/F ratio was 10.5-10.8 in 2nd gear and went down to 9.9-10.3 in 3rd gear.

It can't be my IAT's. 126* isn't that bad to be dumping so much fuel.

ecu is dumping fuel the second it is seeing knock regardless of intake temps...that is why my car pulls to redline, the ecu never sees knock!!!

try throwing some torco in the gas tank and see what the A/F looks like and if you car is pulling 3 deg why not take out 3 degres across the board?

Not true, in the first run I had ZERO knock and it still dumped. Also, when my car was stock it would never dump fuel due to knock retard and it was retarding timing all the time due to knock...but when my IAT's went up when my pump went bad it dumped fuel big time.

I've tuned a few cars with motronic ECU and they never dump fuel due to knock.

+1^ - They only retard timing when they detect the onset of knock.
