The dreaded AMG brake job.

i just had mine done at 75k.i went with benzworks rotors all around and stock pads.i actually love the stock brake pads.i can't believe how many people hate them.i also don't care about the dust,so maybe that's why.
also you need to be careful going with aftermarket pads on the aftermarket rotors, see what the guy selling you the rotors says about what pads to get.in other words some aftermarket pads might be too hard for certain aftermarket rotors.

I got 116k miles of highway driving out of my rotors. I put on racingbrake front rotors for 1k and stock rotors in the rear with stock pads all around. RB does not recommended ceramic pads. akebonos does not make semi metallic pads for the e63. I've since put 2k miles on the new rotors and really like them.

@ the OP
Be sure that you are following closely and getting the correct info. The E63 pads and rotors are NOT the same as the E55 guys and akebono does NOT make pads for the E63 (at least the last time I checked) I have run into a few issues where E55 guys chime in on my E63 questions and have gotten the wrong info. =)![tyson](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/boxing.gif)

I agree, this site seams to be the most frequented AMG forum but it has severe ADHD. The site owner would do well to model it after svtperformance.com Flame suit on and ready.

I just put the Akebono's on the GL550 ( the E55 doesnt need pads yet...), the brake dust is gone I agree however they definitely do not bite like the stock pads...they take a little getting use to but I too couldn't stand the black wheels!

Dunno - - - I have heard of this problem before, however, I've been using EBC reds on Evo rotors for more than two years and about 5000 miles, lots of hard breaking from 100+ MPH and a few (really easy, slow) laps on the Nordschleife. Quite frankly, today the rotors show no particular wear. Before the EVO's I used EBC's on OEM (frozen) rotors with no issues. I think the problem may be the initial break in technique. A final note; I have yet to find pads that work as well as EBC's when you jump hard on the binders when they're ice cold.

My pads left "hot spots" on my rotors so when I drive and brake it grabs certain parts of the rotors and very sloppy. I moved to Akebonos not as powerful as OEM but almost there and no brake dust

2005 E55 AMG....Speed is Relaxin'
My Potterfields R4S stop GREAT !!!!
Very Minimal front dust. Have about 25k
miles on them. No problems with rotor
wear. Will definitely put them
back on for next time.

RacingBrake uses a harder grey iron which can deal with a more aggressive pad.
That said, I still use stock material.
Still cracks me up the continued non-E63 info offered.

Care to bet my friend![naughty](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)

And YES I have them on all my cars and love EBC Reds for street use.
Used Yellows on my C32 with GREAT results, both on and off the track.
NEVER faded, low dust, and I NEVER had to replace a single rotor.

I am down to bet, they stop making for the 63 series. They have them "available" but when you order them, they say they are on national back order till who knows..... I ordered 5 times with all different vendors, all said national back order.

2012 E63 Wagon, 2007 E63 Wagon
i am not as sophisticated on brakes as you guys, but i was told my 2007 E63 wagon with 35k miles needed front/rear pads and front rotors by June '13 (next annual service). the best quote i got was (stock MB parts):
i was shocked that i needed to replace my rotors/pads this early - they said it was age as well as usage.
Cost from dealer:
$1,000 per front rotor
$298 per front pad
$21 per sensor (x2 front/back)
$126 per rear rotor
$173 per rear pad
$575 for labor
they said they'd take 10% off everything

Oh yeah, the mileage seems low to require disks. I did 2 sets of pads before changing rotors at 85k. Of course I do 60 miles a day commuting.

Car had done 41k, the mileage they need replacing at very much depends on the type of driving you do (town highway etc) along with how you drive the car generally (e.g. high speed, hard braking)
I replaced with OEM pads and E63 OEM discs but I have read that the MUCH cheaper E55 discs will fit and have the same bolt pattern. Now I cannot verify this, and I've not heard of anyone who has actually done this, so I stand to be corrected if its not the case....
