LOL. It's hilarious; when I was in Germany I quickly learned that Mercedes and BMWs over there are as common as Ford and Chevys are here. Kind of made me think about my car at the time (BMW) quite differently, as in "not so special."

As for the CLS, they're mainly driven by women around here. It's a "cute" car, not serviceable and taxi-like as is the "E."

sorry, but that E class is not an E55 head. It's actually E63 nose and it does push out more like CLS type just in different shape

Can you give a similar image of some sort of cockroach the E55 is?

Just want to see your perspective

I'm in the same boat here, looking to upgrade to a 2006 CLS55 or a 2006 S65 or 2006 CL65. If I were you look at truely stepping up to the v12tt motor. With an extended warranty the repairs are neglible and with just a tune an 06 v12tt can hit 700HP and 800 lt/tq!

Price-wise you can get an 05-06 S65/CL65 for high 30's low 40's, which is about the same price for an 06 CLS55.

Something to think about.

And for those of you saying the CLS55 is ugly I would counter this argument highlighting all the design awards it won in 2006/2007 along with the fact that it invented an entirely new car segment called the, "4 Door Coupe" which is now being copied by BMW, Audi, and even Jaguar.

If the E55 is rolling art, the CLS55 is rolling pornography. (See pic below)

My $.02.

The Scion xB also created a new segment of boxy econocars that other companies also wanted to copy...and it's an xB.

LOL...

don't get me wrong, I can see why people like the CLS, I understand what's to like about it...***I*** just don't like it. But I don't criticize those who do.

What thing that needs to be explained however, if the cls is so omni-magnificent...then why did the e-class out sell it 5 to 1 on a yearly basis?

V12TT is nice but W220 not as good looking as CLS55 IMO. CLS look more unique but only 4 seats.

100% Agreed! The E55 is like a nice bowl of vanilla ice cream. Pleasant, refeshing....nice...but still vanilla. The CLS55 is like a hot lava cake delivered with melted fudge, spinkles and flaming with Bacardi 151 poured over it served to you by the hottest waitress (Damn is she even 21...?) you've ever seen.

My work is done here.

I hate cake, and 151! You're disgusting However I will try the waitress out, which I believe is the engine in the car.

There's no denying the CLS is better looking. We're not debating that we're debating the performance issue of the CLS. It's heavier and less aerodynamic. I wonder if the extra weight it has over the E55 can be shed easily and they would weigh the same.. The CLS on the road draws ALOT of attention but the E AMG only draws people who know what they're looking at. The CLS has a very radical shape. I would take a W221 over a CLS though, the W221 is just

The W211 is a weird looking car, my car looks nothing like some of the pics I see and some pics look different too. Just look at these 2.

Look how different the trunk lid looks and the whole dimension of the car. The trunk looks like it's bulging on the second and the dimension look all wrong. My car does not look like that. It looks more like the first in proportions. I still can't get past how different every W211 looks in pictures it's very bizarre.

LOL @ this thread. I love my E but the CLS is definately the looker of the two. Sometimes wish I would've bought one of those instead. Their resale seems to be holding a bit better than the E's, and those lines, ohh so sexy.

Pano roof adds a lot of weight... so take that into consideration when comparing.

This thread just made my morning lmao. IMO the CLS looks better, but there are a lot of reasons I chose the E over the CLS. Sleeper status was the first considered, softer ride since I haul kids around was the second.

This thread is so old. How on earth did you find it?

I think they both have their qualities but the CLS has more presence on the road, it's longer and wider. I wish the W211 wasn't so narrow. It should have been 1880mm wide and 100mm longer with all the extra length from the fuel filler cap back. Think of it as a stretched rear section. This is going to sound ****ing retarded but I ALWAYS park my car with the front facing where I'm going and coming back from so I can walk away from it and up to it from the front view, not fully from the from but front sidish. I always get asked by passengers why I do that I'll even give up a parking space The reason is the W211 looks nice and long from the front-side view but the worst angle is front the side straight on looking slightly from the back. It makes the trunk and the whole rear look stumpy and just doesn't match the car. It should have continued that sexy long sleek look it has in the first 3/4 of the car. Again this probably sound RETARDED but I'm extremely detail orientated and I think I'm gonna sell the car due to this no joke to get a W221. The other thing is that the W211 is just small, it is It's not wide and long enough for the 4 door cars of today. It just doesn't look BEEFY and a four door Mercedes should have PRESENCE. For me the presence of the car is the most important thing, more important than the performance or how good it is. That is actually why I don't buy anything other than a Mercedes when it comes to euro cars. BMW, Audi are nice but everybody knows Mercedes is the king. See the W212 doesn't look very sleek and sexy in photos but in real life it's so sexy, it really is and it is wider and beefier than the W211. Oh well, at least we don't drive a CLK W209, that car is so narrow it might as well be a motorcycle (Black Series excepted of course)

By the way these are the angles by which I mean the car looks stumpy at the back, I also find it can look "stumpy" when parked on an angled driveway.

Whereas below it looks SEXY!!

https://farm7.staticflickr.com/6136/...80666c77_o.jpg

http://files.mercedes-fans.de/galler...848be53c0c.jpg

This car has such a perfect front and flow, why oh why did they not make the last 1/4 longer, sleekier and sexier. If they had this car would literally define perfection. Oh and wider too, it should have been 2 inches or so wider.

EDIT

I just found one more photo to highlight the problem I was talking about with the W211 but this as too much. GRAPHIC CONTENT!!!

http://s18.postimg.org/av5mgnimv/Scr...3_36_52_am.png

I had to look 10 times to make sure it was a W211, I literally was about to puke. My car looks stubby sometimes from some angles but I have NEVER seen it like this. How did this person capture the car so hideously. Can it be? Can it really be a W211? I mean the interior suggests it but it looks like some kind of chinese copy replica which got the dimensions horribly wrong. This photo has got be gobsmacked!! What the hell is that thing?!!!!

At least in the Car and Driver shows Curb weight: 4327 lb

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t-specs-page-2

E55 Curb weight: 3900 lb
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t-drive-review

There is NO way they weight only 30lbs different and talking about handling at least E55 or E63 can do Coilover conversion how about CLS ?

the cls is definitely the looker of the two. I wish I could make mine do 10's right out of the box, but having an 11 second family sedan isnt bad either, especially when it looks so sexy.

I ran mine with just heat exchanger and pump upgrades at 12.15et and 118.5MPH. She's definitely no slouch.

I actually quite liked my old CLS55, now in a E63. I do like the body style & interior a bit more(front/rear console) on the CLS55 then the E63. Both are sick rides though
