i wonder if we can somehow blame this on the RTR pulley? lol just kidding, sorry about ur misfortune, hopefully you can find a low mileage engine in Houston and drop that baby in.

Thanks, guys. The car has only 49k on it and the engine went no ***** 500 miles after my warranty expired!

I did forget to mention that I have an 82mm throttle body in my mods list.

On a happier note, I met some of the Houston crew tonight. They seem like a really fun bunch, like you'd expect. Dinner outing is Friday night!

Did you get a retune for the upper pulley and the 82mm tbody?

So basicly he was running a 190 with an 82mm or is that combo over 190?

The math is from 180mm and the smaller upper S/C pulley

Not if done properly....One should NOT be JUST tuning WOT, especially if adding injectors....It would really be interesting to know what his open and closed looped logs looked like....

I am Very suspicious of running the two pulleys. Also doing a poll in fifth gear, even at half throttle,Is something that I would also question. Anyway I hope the tech finds out what caused it. Good luck jim

In fact that was a good question. He had the smaller SC pulley upgrade and from we know, you need to tune that thing for the extra boost. For any 55K owner should be concern the cause of engine failure. 180 crank pulley + SC pulley = 195mm pulley power band.

Dennis, what MPH did you do the 5th gear pull up to, and do you think the car could have still been pulling boost on desceleration? Boost, with no fueling due to descelerating after the pull would cause copious amounts of heat, and detonation, ultimately catastrophic engine failure. This would lead to the white smoke you saw immediatly after the run.

It will be interesting to see what the internals look like if you decide to open the motor up. Top piston damage, holes, would be expected if this is the case.

During deceleration the car shuts the injectors completely off ( until it gets near idle speeds ) so even if it still had boost it should not be able to detonate.

Denroll put a bore scope inside cylinder 2 to see the damage. I will let him chime in.

Anybody can tune a vehicle at full throttle, it's when the tuner does part throttle street driving is when you find good tuners especially on F/I cars. During part throttle, the engine can lean out but normally it doesn't cause damage. If the vehicle is under load, high rpm, part throttle, bad gas etc., under the correct circumstances there is a chance of catastrophic engine failure.

Sorry to hear about your car man. I know how it feels to lose the BEAST. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with the car.

I agree, although the problem rarely is that it runs lean at part throttle, since 14.7 is the norm, but rather running too much timing ( or too little ).

From what we could tell, it looked like rings. Until I get the car somewhere and get the heads pulled, I won't know for sure. The piston did not look melted, but it wasn't the clearest of bore scopes.

Doing some drinking now in Houston.
