Testing the corn (E85) @ the pump
Testing the corn (E85) @ the pump
Decided to test the E85 at our local gas station to see what the actual octane was of the corn.
You fill the tube up with distilled water up to the line at the bottom, then pump E85 to the line all the way at the top. Turn the tube upside down several times, and let the corn and water seperate. The seperation line will tell you exactly what the octane actually is. Best part about it is, cost only $3.19/gallon

Based on the results of the test, it looks like the summer blend is E90

You can also use a Zeitronix ethanol analyzer as well....IMHO, I would recommend tuning on the low side of e-xx based upon your area. If your tune is for e85 and you run e50, you could have issues....
Although e85 is great stuff, I would not recommend it for a daily driver as the mpg are worse than standard pump....
