Best bang for the buck exhaust mod?
Hi all!
Well, got bit by the bug and picked up an 04 E55 not too long ago. Now I am ready to start playing with it a bit. While I pull some money together for some toys from Kleemann, I was wondering what exhaust mods can I make just to give me some better (meaner) sound without eating into the Kleemann money to badly?
Thanks in advance!

Go to a well known exhaust shop, and ask for good stainless steel piping, and get your secondary cats and resonator removed. See if you can fit an X pipe from MBH in your budget and have them weld it all together. I don't have an X Pipe, but it sounds mean when you give it gas, but nice and mercedes'esque when you cruise.

I had the ELM v2, but just had it uninstalled recently. I have Forgestar F14 wheels, with some Nitto NT05 tires. And besides the exhaust that is it.
My airmatic is having compressor issue. But i'm going to swap to KW v2's within the next month or so. So the car is going to sit in my garage until first of August. I've already reached my monthly modding budget on my STi.

No, the shop i'm taking it to goes through STAR/SDS and basically changes it from "Airmatic" to "Steel Suspension." And of course a lot more things through the diagnostics.
Remember, the CLK63 Black Series, and the Dodge Viper SRT10 which is loosely based on the SL Mercedes chasis, both use and come from the factory, with KW Variant 2 suspension.
The CLK63 Black is my favorite car of all time. That's why I love my E63, looks like a 4 door CLK63 Black.

Heres the thread on the coilover swap, don't mean to highjack this guys thread. Carry on.
Here is my cars sound. I was recording and my little cousin/roommate was driving because I wanted to hear what it sounded like, so he didn't really open it up all the way.

Headers are the best bang for the buck exh. mod, if you want power, sound and cooler IAT`s. and all the catback, X pipe, resonator stuff is just fluff.

cutout 2nds and res -- x pipe would be good -- OEM mufflers are quiet - taking out the primaries wont be loud at all -- since ur in FL u can do that if you want.
I cut it all out and its what i want.
You need to get some type of headers -- OEM are seriously pathetic --

Like everyone says...best bang for your buck...headers, res delete, 2nd's dropped....
It still won't be loud after that but you'll get about 30 HP. Our stock cans are so quiet, even with me running NO cats and long tube headers, it's not loud.
If you just want some noise, throw on 63 mufflers...or install QTP cutouts like I did. :-)

I have all you guys beat for best bang for the buck...
$150 delete the mufflers. If you delete cats it starts to stink, your clothes, your date, your food everything will stink like race fuel. (from experience)
yes i said mufflers.... fackin sounds boss. You will love it trust me.
any other car it would sound like shat i agree. but not on a v8 supercharged beast. I think there is only one or two vids on youtube that have an example. if you cant find it PM me and ill email you a clip from my car.

i agree - just taking off the OEM mufflers would sound pretty nice. louder than what i have now but it wouldnt be crazy.. if you left all the cats and res in.

I'd initially planned on doing just that - straight pipes in for the stock mufflers. Was quoted $250 for the work (mandrel bent SS)...but then the jackasses wouldn't return my calls to schedule the job.
I disagree on the whole "you'll stink like race fuel" thing when you delete the cats/res. I have no cats, no res...just long tubes, straight pipe, an x, and then mufflers. I might stink behind me...but not on me. Well...unless I open the dumps - and then yes, it does smell like a good time.
