Feedback for a plan to beat the heat on race day?
I have a 2004 e55 and am planning my first day at the drag strip in a few weeks.
I am pretty skilled with a wrench but don't really know too much about drag
racing.
To combat the typical 105*F weather in my area I was thinking of running switches
to my radiator fan and intercooler pump so that while waiting for
my next run I could try to get the temps down again. Has anyone had success
with this method? I have also been reading about the advantages of running
distilled water with water wetter on race day, does anybody have any feedback on this idea?
Sorry for potentially noob questions, and thanks for being a great community
of racing e55 owners!

Welcome!!
Your going to want to wire your I/C to a switched 12v so it runs with key on. That will help. You can also Get into STAR (If you know someone and do the -10c cooling mod, Just search it you will see all the info about it. Distilled water is good but I would leave your system the way it is until you split it. The best thing to do is Upgrade your PUMP, and H/E. That will pretty much Eliminate S/C shutoff.

I bought the CM30 intercooler pump. Is STAR the name of the dealer diagnostic tool?
I have a snap-on verus, I'll see if I can control the fans with it, as I have no connects
at my local dealer. Thanks FabTech!

Yes You will need the STAR system to make any changes. And Good deal on the pump. Are you tuned? Any other mods?

I just bought the intercooler pump because I have been reading that the stock pump is not sufficient and my SC has been cutting out lately in the heat. I come from the N/A BMW world and am not familiar with tuning. Are there new maps I can buy via chip tuning or would I need to send in dyno and AFR info to the tuners? I'm not sure if a tune will really help me much as I have not modified the boost pressure or volume at all. (no mods, right down to OE air filters)
Hey thanks again FabTech, I'll definitely pull the trigger on that heat exchanger, although I suspect I won't be able to order it for my girls maiden voyage at the drag strip.

No Problem. A tune WILL help, You will be very surprised by the results even stock. The good thing about a tune is if you decide to change your mods down the road Eurocharged will offer free Re flashes for the new mods. They can flash your computer form the convince from your home through log me in and a Serial to USP cord.

You will definately feel the difference, even with no other mods. Eurocharged is were it's at. I will never look back.

radiator fan draws too much current it will drain the battery quick.
Wire the pump to the 12v accessory. Open the ecu box and get the power from the thick orangeish red wire all the way in the back of the ecu box.
Also when you replace the pump make sure the system is free of any air pockets
OR
You can mimic a dual heat exchanger setup like this. There is room to do it.
More pics are in the M275 V12TT section.

Truth is you shouldn't be racing or beating on your car in triple digit weather, it's not good for your car, it doesn't really matter what cooling you have...
Go race on a nice 60-80 degree day with low humidity if possible

Enthusiastically is one thing but to beat on it over and over in very hot weather is not good for the engine. Anyone will notice this if they go to the track on a hot day the numbers will always be bad compared to a colder day

I installed the ic pump today and bled from the aluminum ISO flare tube but did not get any air bubbles, even with the pump intermittently being fed 12v. Then I ran the engine to operating temp to bleed the rest of the engine, but did not get any air bubbles. Should I be worried about damaging the pump due to air bubbles possibly trapped? I didn't even get one bubble out.

It's possible you didn't actually trap any air, but someone more knowledgeable should answer.
I thought this was gonna be a thread about coolsuits!
Agreed with Hulk - I'd try to limit the number of drag days you to in that weather. Driving enthusiastically is one thing, repeatedly beating on the car in already punishing conditions is another. If you really want to do that, build/buy something designed exclusively for that purpose.
