Finally got my car back after some warranty work...

i/c pump, SBS, dynamic seats... all in all ~$1,900 of work, 99% covered (that's good)

I'm a bit puzzled... something isn't adding up. I check my gas mileage every tank. When I dropped off the car it had 73 miles on a fresh tank - maybe down 1-2 ticks on the gas gauge. Not sure why I checked it, but I did - should have taken a picture...

When I picked it up today, 366.3 miles on the ODO. and 1/2 tank left - computer says 116 miles till empty... not sure about you guys - but I've never pulled down over 410 miles on a tank and that was all highway. The estimate would put it closer to 500 miles.

The car is 'clean' as it had the complimentary wash - the tires don't look beat.

What could possibly make the trip ODO go up by ~300 miles?

The service records say they put 9 miles on the car, which I think is 'ok' for testing a new I/C pump, etc... but the trip computer said 12.3 miles since last restart - so even that is off.

I really like my tech and SA, but something seems weird here...

btw - I called the SA and he and the tech said they'll check around the shop. the incoming mileage and the outgoing mileage match - but I'm weirded out by the ODO reading.

thoughts?

No matter where or what I'm getting installed/fixed, I always make sure they see me taking a picture of my mileage right before I hand them my key.

It seems like they drove your car for a little bit. I don't like when they do that. What of something happened while they were driving more than they needed to?

I once say MB techs take a AMG joyride to taco bell during lunch.
In fact my SA recognized me. They took a S55

ok - taco bell is fine, 300 miles... not so much.

I could have sworn I saw my car over the weekend, but obviously couldn't catch it in my C250 rental...

Happened to me as well, when they unplugged my battery the trip odo increased. However, the actual mileage on the car was the same. As long as the actual mileage on the car matches you're good.

actual mileage - so if the ODO was reset to the mileage on the paperwork, but the 300 miles were actually driven - no harm, no foul ?

it's pretty obvious that the car couldn't have 366 miles on a 1/2 tank of gas...

My friend said he got smoked in his M5 by a silver E55 on Hwy 50 the other day.... Coincidence?

Then again, the stories I have heard from friends who are techs at the dealer.... -_- 300 mile test drive to San Francisco in an SL65 on a nice cool weekend.... Yeah, test drive me a s-s....

Maybe someone there siphoned some gas out of your tank while it was in the parking lot, or used the fuel pump to pump gas into a can while it was in the shop.

ha, As usual, you bring massive clarity to the unclear. I always wondered why they put us in c250s.

This is funny too. When my SL was at EC a few years back being dyno tuned, an ex EC employee, ( I shouldn't name names, but Okay, Greg) told me a Ferrari 360 Modena would not leave him alone while test driving my car. He just had to run the F-car. I asked "did you walk him" his response was "OH YEAH"

I saw the E55 going up to Placerville... went out to wine country in the C250 LOL

That's the reverse of what I think happened, someone burned a whole tank of gas meaning they burned the rest of my original tank, then refilled and burned off 1/2 that thinking I wouldn't notice...

exactly - see my stats above? best I've recorded is 350 per tank and it was at 366 when I picked it up (with 1/2 a tank left!)

Quote: Quoted me 500 installed at dealer. I can live without them for now, tho they r nice
my driver's side got fixed - bad control valve - $1,077.50
passenger side is a failed bag, not covered - would cost me $796 out of pocket - i declined

LOL so true, I was like "S" MODE NOW! didn't help...

Honestly, the tech and SA are fantastic guys - I'd like to think it's a glitch or something being overseen... maybe someone snaggled the car while waiting on parts

I saw your car there last weekend, I'm not sure when they could have put 300 miles on it and David wasn't driving a E class

yep, just puzzling me how those miles got on the Trip ODO without getting on the Overall ODO, and the 1/2 tank left...

I hear you have some new tweaks in process

hehe - yes, I talked to him today... can't wait to take a ride

those new exhaust parts are going to sound pretty awesome - gotta take some video clips!

what muffler shop do you use? I've used marco muffler on Greenback for over 10 years on multiple vehicles - a few of the techs in there really know their stuff !
