'07 E63 - A/C stops blowing after several hour trip...why?
We take our '07 E63 on our long distance trips from Indianapolis to just north of Toronto ( ~ 600 miles one way), and for the second time we have noticed that after approximately 5 hours or so of driving the air conditioning will just stop blowing. The climate control is still on, but the air stops coming out of the vents. What is weird is that it sounds like there is air blowing behind the dash, but just not coming out of the vents. Then we stopped for fuel and after about 15 minutes started driving again and all was well for about 15 minutes when the amount of air coming out of the vents slowly decreased.
It only seems to do this on extended distance trips with the air conditioning running on colder temperatures like 68 or so. Not sure if it matters or not, but we usually are driving rather quickly ( ~ 90 mph or so) for long periods of time too. Yeah...I know it is speeding, but I want to get where I am going.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Mitch, not sure if this is it, but allow me to share my experience. With the heat wave in early July, my wife's Infiniti FX35 would not blow any cool air. I allowed some pressure out of the AC system, and then it worked fine. What I think happened is that with the increase in ambient temperature, the pressure in the system exceeded the safe point and the compressor wouldn't kick on. When I tried to top off the AC last year, I found the same thing when I accidentally overfilled the system. Maybe, just maybe, your engine compartment warmed up too much and the pressure was too high and the compressor wouldn't come on. Maybe next time it happens, pull over and see if the compressor clutch is engaging.
Just a thought.

I think it's freezing up on you and preventing air flow. This happened to me once on a long trip, so I turned off the A/C but left the fan blowing. After about 30seconds, it started blowing again, and blowing really cold for the next few minutes, even with A/C compressor turned off. To me that meant the coils had completely frozen.
