Dropped In On The Folks At Affalterbach

So I was in Baden-Baden for a few days and I decided to drop in (unannounced) to Affalterbach. Absolutely great time. I was the only guest and received a personal tour. Took many photos, a few of which are posted here. I was requested not to publish or post several other photos of various areas and I will respect their request.

They looked over my E55 (The only one ever there from Florida) and checked out the redesigned features, some of which they had never seen. They spotted lightweight Evo brakes instantly. They got a real kick out of the photos of my W109.

In any event, if you should ever be in the neighborhood, well, don't miss it.

Wow, that had to be exciting. The wife and I are planning a trip to the AMG factory next year and we want to try to tie it in with the German Grand Prix. I have heard that they give an awesome tour and it would be so exciting to be around people that are so involved with the brand.
Thanks for sharing the pics.

How much of a pain was it to get your car over to Europe?

Awesome experience, by the way!

How did you get your car over seas, and what did it cost?

I am looking to do a tour of Europe, but in a Porsche 930...

Thank you for your post.
AKA "The Bikini Plate"
They flipped at my W109 "Bikini Plate" As my wife was born in Mainz, Germany, they really appreciated the CLK 63 plate

There are numerous freight forwarders who can do this for you. The best way is in a container. It can be done for as little as $750. Here is a good link for information.

What a great opportunity! Really cool they checked out your car as well.

PS The stock wheels look about a perfect match on your car. Imagine that.

What I was unaware of is that AMG will do just about any type of custom work you can imagine, but you had better have an unlimited supply of gelt. They were finishing a custom re-paint on a brand new C63. They had received the car from MB Stuttgart. It was then completely disassembled, sanded (not stripped) and resprayed. All at the Affalterbach facility. About 30,000 euros and six weeks to complete. Custom interiors like you have never seen. If they ain't got it, they'll just build it.

Not unlike Porsche’s profitable sonderwunsch programme.

Someday I’ll again visit the fatherland and Affalterbach to pay homage at AMG’s HQ.

The Chrome DTM in the background is a stock C63 that they built to look like the racer, but it has the auto tranny, electric windows AND . . . it will NEVER be sold. Just a display car. I was afraid to ask what it would cost to have one modified, but AMG will do it. They did not drop any names, but I suspect the infamous Mr. Dotcom has one or two of their special creations.
