fyi: arnott FINALLY sells rear airmatics
i know it's only been about 3+ years since arnott first said their rear airmatic replacements were a month away...but they're finally on their website.
i don't frequent much anymore but a quick search tells me there hasn't been any talk of this lately...but we all know how well the search function works so forgive me if this is old news to you guys.

They are. They use smaller bellows ( with smaller pistons ). Smaller bellows require more pressure to raise the car, more pressure = stiffer. They also eliminate the reservoir which also = stiffer. They feel a lot better imo.
That's only if you want to remove the oem airbag without detaching the reservoir, that's a crazy amount of work. I detached the reservoirs and didn't have to remove barely anything to do the install. My oem bellows were shot anyways so they went to the trash.

Arnott airmatic installation
I need to replace my rear airmatic and after looking at the diy video posted on the arnott website it seems like quite an intensive job. Has anyone else attempted this installation DIY? any help would be greatly appreciated. I wish i could contribute valuable information for fellow members but I am still a rookie weekend mechanic.

Has anybody tried to remove the factory reservoir after install installing rear arnotts?
Im hoping its possible to pull it out through the subframe somehow without disconnecting anything. I did not look that hard at it when i installed the arnotts just cut the pipe and installed them called it good.
But i would like to remove the reservoir?

Don't bother removing the reservoirs. They are the reason the install is so complicated per Arnott's instructions and it's completely unnecessary. Just leave them installed unused and make your life simple.

Is this the only part necessary? https://www.arnottindustries.com/par...34_gid963.html
Left my car sitting for 5 days this week and the ***** was slammed in the rear. Still raises.
My neighbor's E320 down the street has done this for years. I'm not too worried yet.

Weather it would be an actual problem im not 100% sure but id rather they was gone. I might have a look at it today and see if its possible.
Modifications like coilovers over here need an "engineers" cert to say the car is roadworthy. It a pain in the ***.
As soon as they see that anodised red bit of the bottom of the air spring i can see them making my life difficult over that even.

CarID Arnott rear Airmatic
I am attempting to purchase the Arnott rear airmatic replacements on carID and it says they are sold in pairs, I am speaking with a live chat representative who is stating that I only need to add 1 to my cart and I will receive two as they are sold in pairs. Am i missing something here, $388 total for two?

Thinking about it I'm pretty sure that they do come in pairs, if you're getting it for that price that seems like a great deal! I think I paid 600,I thought ....maybe they just getting cheaper? Or too much....it was a while ago and I might have had other items in my cart?

Sounds like that is for one air spring - they retail for US$451.96.
If replacing an O.E. unit with an Arnott Air Spring you MUST replace both rear air springs at the same time.
Replacing just one O.E. spring with the Arnott designed air spring may result in a slight difference in heights between the O.E. side and new air spring side. This is due to the vehicle’s ride height sensor reading different pressures in the new and O.E. springs and automatically making adjustments for that. This does not occur if you replace both sides at once.
Our installation manual and video both include the procedure for the complete disassembly which is needed to remove the air reservoirs.

They were available as pairs as recently as December 2013 so I can see where the confusion may have occurred.

So I've had mixed quality of service from Arnott. What is your policy on providing the airline fittings these days? I got the run around a couple of times on this. Many that installed these before me said they got new fittings ... Mine came without ... I was told they'd be sent and then I was told they would not be sent since they are not included ... Finally managed to get them but was unhappy at the runaround.
Overall a good solid product though.
