Exclamation I hate being broken, but that was close.....

I've been enjoying the wonderful power my car is making. And since I've been making this kind of power I've been breaking all the weaker links in the car. And every time something breaks I just make it stronger.

Well, I getting on the highway when I pulled up next to a brand new M3. Needless to say, we both looked at each other and nodded and waited for the light. So, the light turns green and we both hammer it. I instantly pulled three cars out. I looked back to see where he was at and something happened.
I don't know what it was, but the car hesitated and shuttered so bad that I had to let go. The M3 started to close the gap so I hit it again and it shuttered again.
So I quickly shut her down and got off the highway. CEL was now on and I truly thought I blew the engine. So I towed the car to Rage-Tek to see what happened. As soon as we opened the hood you could clearly see that the SC clutch bearings were almost all gone. So we figured it would be an easy fix.

I got the car back with upgraded clutch and was very happy. Until I took it out for a spin. The car seemed very responsive at this point and I decided to do a pull. I started at 60mph and hit it. I only got to 80mph before it violently shuttered and lost power. So I shut her down. The idle was so rough I thought it was going to shut off on its on. I turned it off and back on and it seemed to be normal. So I limped back to Rage-Tek.

We pulled the codes and found this:
Cylinder 5 - miss fire
Cylinders 1, 5, 6 - fuel injector circuit low

I thought to myself "how bad did I fu*k it up?". So we pulled the plugs and injectors. Did a compression test and guess what? 180 psi on all 8 cylinders. I think that the engine is very strong. I'm very happy that nothing major happened.

BIG THANKS to Jerry and Eurocharged for sending my new injectors the next day! You guys are AWESOME!

I like the part that you put 3 car length on the M3. He would be socked!

Wow, I'm surprised you got back in it after the first shudder.

Good to hear that you got the problem fixed before it cascaded!

Seems off that your injectors (1,5, and 6 ) would all be clogged ....Did you check fuel pressure at the rail ?

Pressure on rail is normal. We think it may have gotten some really bad gas. Because just before I ran into the M3, I stopped at a gas station that i never have before and it wasn't in the best area. And it all started there.

I agree I hate being broken too. I'm glad to hear it didn't turn into a major problem, even though any problem sucks.
You have excellent compression, so internally she is definitly healthy.

good to hear it wasn't anything major. would have been nice if you would have finished up your run against the M3, but that can always wait until another day. At least you got it looked at right away and fixed.
If you think it was the gas, do you have to drain it and refill with gas you can trust or can you possibly treat what you have already?
Good Luck.

Good to hear no damage was done. If you had of blew it up, you know he'd be all over the BMW forums saying someone in a E55 blew his car up trying to race him.

How did the injectors look when you took them out? Any gunk on the tips?

Aaron

The only thing good about being down is that I always get my car back stronger. And thank you! The compression shows how strong this Beast is. And for that I'm happy.

Yah man, if I even feel something funny with the car, I take it straight over to Rage-Tek and Nemo finds it and fixes it. Most of the time it's just me being over cautious, but better safe than sorry.

You know me, I'm always down for whatever.

BTW Nemo is doing more test fitting now.

Your probably right about that. But if you saw the look on his girl's face..... Oh man, she looked like she saw something bigger and better and wanted it.
I'll get some pics of the injectors for you.

Thanks! I try to keep the car as healthy as possible. So if it breaks, it gets fixed immediately.
